As much as it pains me to do this, I am announcing that I am selling some of my figures. I am running out of space in my room (I literally have to step over things now), and until I can afford my own house, I have to either get rid of stuff and/or stop getting more stuff. I only had time to take pictures of some of the figures I’m planning to sell, so there will be a part 2 to this sale later.

Conditions of Nopy’s Big Figure Sale:

All figures are sold as-is and come in their original boxes. I have included pictures of each figure just before boxing them so you can see exactly what you will get.
Prices are in Canadian dollars.
Shipping is not included in the price and will vary depending on the destination and shipping method.
I will only accept payments through Paypal.
This is a first come first serve sale, so whoever sends me an email first stating they want a figure will get the chance to buy it first. Please note that I said email, do not leave a comment here saying you want to buy a figure (I need a way to contact you back and some people typo their emails in the comments).
If payment is not received within 4 days, the figure will go to the next person interested in the figure.
Once payment is received, I will ship out the figure within a week. I take no responsibility for lost or damaged figures once I drop it off at the post office.
Promise that you will take good care of the figure.

Rika Furude by Wave

Alright, my first figure post in over 4 months. This figure of Rika from Higurashi no Naku Koro Ni Kai by Wave Corporation is the best I’ve seen of her so far. Her clothing is very simple, only wearing a white dress with a small bow, but I think she looks good in it. Full 360 degree shots are below:

As you can see, there isn’t really much to this figure. I liked the waves in Rika’s dress, but I thought her hair could’ve used a bit more detail. Her arms and legs seemed really fragile, but I’m guessing that was done on purpose considering Rika’s physical age in the story, not to mention she’s also drawn pretty thin in the anime. I’m not really sure what she’s supposed to be doing with her right hand. It looks as if she’s supposed to be holding something in the palm of her hand, but there was nothing else in the box she came in.

The base is in a hexagon shape and doesn’t take up much room which is good if you’re running out of shelf space for figures like I am. You can also see how thin Rika’s ankles are here. I guess with something so fragile, they didn’t want collectors accidently breaking off Rika’s foot trying to get a peg from the base in it, which is why Rika comes screwed onto the base.

Rika’s face could’ve been done a bit better than it was. With a blank look like this and the pose she’s in, it’s as if the sculptor couldn’t decide on how to make Rika so he just gave her a blank expression and randomly put her hand up. What’s really saving this figure is her dress, which gives her a sort of elegant look, and the fact that there are hardly any (if at all) figures of Rika out there (which makes this one the best out there). Rika is my favourite Higurashi character, and I think she deserves a better figure, but having an average one like this is better than nothing at all.

4 Month Loot

Well, after nearly 4 months working out of town, I finally finished my work and returned home last week. Of course, not being able to open anything that was delivered during those 4 months, it started building up and became a nice Christmas gift from me to me :)

The three nendoroids on top are Riannon from Tears to Tiara, Ryougi Shiki from Kara no Kyoukai, and Raspberyl from Disgaea 3. On the bottom are Rika and Hanyuu from Higurashi no Naku Koro Ni Kai, and Fate from Mahou Shoujo Lyrical Nanoha StrikerS. Below the figures on the top row are Megami Magazines Vol. 113-115; on the second row are Megami Magazine Creators Vol. 17, Megami Magazine Deluxe Vol. 13, and the Zero no Tsukaima Visual Collection; on the third row are Dengeki G’s Magazine 2009 Oct-Dec issues; and on the bottom row are Nyantype Vol. 3 and 4.

The border authorities inspected my copy of Dengeki G’s December issue, which is why it’s out of the plastic. Sometimes I wonder why they check printed material so often; I’ve only ever had two figures been randomly inspected at the border, but way more of my magazines have been inspected. Sometimes I wonder with so many more inspections of printed material, whether or not someone is purposely trying to restrict freedom of opinion/expression. Anyways, I wish they didn’t inspect my stuff so much, I always feel disappointed when I get something new but its already been opened before I even get a look at it.

I’ll be reviewing all the stuff I got in the next few weeks, so look forward to more posts and lots more pics :D

Hanyuu and Rika Furude Figures by Wave

I checked my email this morning to find that Hanyuu and Rika figures are now available for reservation (yay!)

I didn’t even know that anyone was planning on making figures of Hanyuu and Rika, but I’m glad someone decided to because I’ve wanted some decent-looking Higurashi no Naku Koro Ni figures for a while.

Out of the two, I think that Hanyuu looks a bit better. There’s a seam at the top of her head, but I just love her pose and her dress just makes her look so cute. Rika looks pretty good too, but there’s just something off with the way her face looks and I don’t really get what she’s doing in that pose (maybe trying to explain something?)

Hanyuu and Rika will be available in September 2009 and I’m definitely preordering them. I’ve never bought any figures by Wave before, so I guess these two will be my first. Has anyone else bought figures by Wave, and if so, what did you think of the quality?

Higurashi no Naku Koro Ni Rei Wallpapers

Higurashi no Naku Koro Ni Rei Wallpapers

So eariler this week after looking at some anime vectors that people have done, I decided to learn how to do vectors myself so I could make my own wallpapers. Since this was my first time trying to vector something, I decided to do something easy just to get started. My first vector actually doesn’t have any anime characters, I just took a screenshot of the title for Higurashi no Naku Koro Ni Rei from the opening and vectored that.

Believe it or not, this took me several hours to finish (mainly because I had no clue where anything was in photoshop).

Well, after practicing using the pen tool on the title, I decided to actually vector an anime character next. Once again, I took another screenshot from the opening of higurashi (this time of Rika):

and here’s the result:

I didn’t really like the flower petals in the original image so I left them out. I also made the colours slightly darker since I was going to use a dark background. The part that gave me the most trouble was the eyes. I didn’t like the way that anime eyes turned out based on the tutorials that I read on anime vectoring so I modified them and came up with my own method of drawing eyes. Basically what I did was put a few layers of colours on top of each other and used the eraser tool with opacity set to 10-20% and erase parts of the top colours to reveal the bottom colours. This way, the colours seem to flow into each other if you know what I mean.

The last wallpaper I made was of Hanyuu, using this screenshot:

Once again, this is what I produced:

Personally, I think I did a better job on Hanyuu than Rika. The only trouble I had with Hanyuu was the really light parts in her hair; it’s really close in colour to her regular hair colour so it was hard to make out where the boundaries between the two colours were.

Anyone is welcome to use these wallpapers, but if you repost them online, I’d appreciate it if a link back here is added along with the wallpapers.
