Today we have volume 143 (April 2012) of Megami Magazine, just before the end of the month. The cover this time around features Shinobu from Nisemonogatari eating one of those weird donuts that looks like it’s wrapped in something.

The ecchi level is high in this volume so some of you will probably want to pass on getting this one (or get your wallets out *wink*). As usual, any objectionable (ecchi) images are hidden in the links rather than shown directly on the page in order to protect those visiting from public places from embarrassment.

Infinite Stratos continues to find its way into Megami, with some of the girls wearing matching outfits.

Guilty Crown isn’t anywhere near being good, but you’ve got to admit that it has some nice artwork. I love the expressions on Mana and Inori’s faces, and the background makes it feel a bit dream-like. My only complaint is that with the angle Mana’s legs come down, it seems like she’s missing some feet.

A bra is showing so I’ll classify this Rinne no Lagrange poster as ecchi, but with such simplistic line art, it’s hard to think of it as such.

At first, Tsubasa looks pretty hot here, but take a closer look and you’ll notice that her body proportions are completely off. Her waist is about the same size as one of her thighs, her arms are not much wider than her sword, and her left breast looks like a deflated balloon hanging off her clothing. Horrible illustrations for a horribly animated series?

I admit it, I have a leg fetish, and Ririchiyo has the nicest anime legs I’ve seen in a while. Not to mention she’s also adorable.

Cute.

Again, we have the same Shinobu illustration as the one on the front cover. I like how they made a patterned donut backdrop in accordance with the -monogatari style.

Its been a while since Megami included an Amagami SS poster. Like many of the previous ones, it also features a one-piece swimsuit. Not quite to my tastes, but it’s nice if you don’t like bikinis.

Nice tiles. I don’t really have anything to say about this one.

Papakiki confuses me to no end, is it supposed to be ecchi (like shown here), or heartwarming?

This would’ve been a nice poster if it weren’t for the fact that all three girls are covered by shadows. Couldn’t they have drawn the sun shining in front of them?

The featured artist in this volume’s Girl’s Avenue is Hirano Katsuyuki (a.k.a. Tsuyuki, 津雪). He has worked on illustrations for games such as Record of Agarest War and Blazing Souls. The majority of his illustrations seem to have a fantasy theme and his style has what I would describe as a watercolour-look, as you can see from his illustration above. This is one of the nicer Highschool DxD posters in my opinion. It has a classy look while still keeping in line with the main selling point of the series.

There was nothing interesting in the anime section of the magazine, just some series which have already started airing and Sword Art Online.

The figure section was significantly reduced, only consisting of a single-sided page. Featured figures were all seen during the last Wonder Festival.

The back cover picks up where previous volumes left off and continues to advertise To Heart 2′s Dungeon Travellers OVA.

The saving grace for this volume is that it comes with a nice Nanoha poster for the upcoming second movie. I love Nanoha with her hair down.

On the reverse side is an illustration of Gertrud and Erica from Strike Witches. It’s a but dull since they’re not doing anything.

Overall, this was a disappointing volume. The Infinite Stratos illustration was high quality, and I personally like the Guilty Crown and Inu x Boku SS posters, but the lack of detail and low quality of other posters really dragged down my impression of this volume.

This volume once again features Idolmaster on the front cover, though the series is nowhere near as prominent as Nanoha. There were surprisingly fewer pin-up posters in this volume, which you can check out below. For newcomers, links to images are ecchi and may be assumed to be NSFW.

To honour the upcoming Strike Witches movie, the yuri couple of Sanya and Eila makes an appearance here.

Despite Guilty Crown’s shortcomings, I have to admit that they do know how to pander to male audiences without being too obvious. Any nurse lovers here?

I’m surprised that they have hamburgers in Louise’s world; I guess Saito told everyone about them. I’m kinda upset that Siesta took the spotlight from Louise in this poster.

Symphogear isn’t what I would call yuri, but it tries to give off that feeling between the characters. I doubt you would see Miku eyeing Hibiki like that in the anime though. Does anyone find it odd how twig-like their fingers are?

I liked this poster because it only showed the half of Charlotte’s dream that matters. It’s rather late for Valentine’s Day though.

If this poster is any indication, the upcoming K-ON movie will have NINJAS! Everyone knows that ninjas make everything 10x better, especially if they’re female ninjas.

Here is the cover image without the text covering up everything. While I’m not an Idolmaster fan, I have to admit that this poster is very nice. I love the outfits and the mix of spotlights, graffiti, and star-sphere thingies makes it more attention-grabbing.

This poster would’ve been excellent if it weren’t for the fact that they forgot about light refraction with water. Megami is usually good about these things, but I guess they wanted to preserve the appeal of the characters.

A typical girl on bed shot. She’s cute, but there’s nothing really special about this poster.

Here we have a poster with a stunning illustration by Namamo Nanase (なまもななせ) of the circle Kaitsushin. You can visit her blog at http://d.hatena.ne.jp/kaitsushin/. Nanase creates some stunning artwork, and this illustration is a perfect example. The girls have cute expressions, long wavy hair, the right proportions, and highly detailed (and stylish) outfits. Add to that a surreal background that looks like a crossing of dimensions and you have one incredible poster on your hands.

The concept of To Heart 2: Dungeon Travellers is interesting, but after seeing the first episode, not my cup of tea. It was too plain and boring, the same goes for this poster.

A nice little extra that came with this volume was a Nanoha promotional card. I like to keep these things sealed for value’s sake.

The Figure StyleS section didn’t have anything that caught my interest other than the Kyouko nendoroid.

The anime section covered some sequels like Saki, Yuru Yuri, and Queen’s Blade. One new title that caught my eye was Jinrui wa Suitai Shimashita (人類は衰退しました) at the bottom of the right page. Based on a novel by the same name, Jinrui wa Suitai Shimashita (or Jintai) takes place in the future when humanity has declined to the point where we are no longer the dominant species on Earth. Instead, the world is dominated by little faeries about 10cm tall. One day, a girl takes a few of them home (through kidnapping) and soon finds out that they evolve much faster than anything else. Over the course of a few days she witnesses the rise of a people, the building of a civilization, and experiences what it’s like to be God. It certainly sounds like a cute and funny series with a deeper meaning, just my type. I couldn’t find more information on it, but from the description in Megami (which I wish I could read), it has some relation to Angel Beats and Steins;Gate.

Seeing this ad in here was surprising. I can’t remember how many years its been since I watched Kimi ga Nozomu Eien, but I still remember hating the blue-haired girl for what she did.

On the back cover is a cute Mashiroiro Symphony ad. I wish there were more posters from this series instead of just ads.

The B2 poster from this volume featured a lovely poster of Nanoha and friends on a ski trip. Those are the tiniest snowboards I’ve ever seen.

The opposite side features nerd-Homura with what appears to be a cheesecake. Personally, I would’ve liked a poster of yuri-Homura instead.

There were some very nice posters in this volume. My favourite one is definitely the one with Nanase’s illustration, followed by the Idolmaster poster and Ano Natsu poster. Guilty Crown and IS are tied for 4th. The ecchiness wasn’t too bad, though I did omit one poster entirely. Overall, a pretty good volume.

Volume 141 (February 2012) of Megami Magazine once again features Nanoha and Fate from Mahou Shoujo Lyrical Nanoha. The cast of Nanoha has been absent from the last few volumes, but with the second movie coming out this summer, we’ll probably be seeing a lot more of them soon. This volume contains a few goodies, but first lets take a look at the pin-up posters. Ones with more racy images are hidden in the links, so click at your own discretion.

The first poster in this volume features Laura and Cecilia in some miko outfits. It seems more fitting for a fall issue, but I like miko outfits so I’m not complaining.

This was an odd poster, it looks like Sena, Kobato, and Yozora somehow managed to get tangled up in a ton of ribbon. If you’re going to have fanservice, might as well use the 3 most popular girls from Boku wa Tomodachi ga Sukunai.

I swear that there’s at least a half dozen other posters from previous volumes showing Yui hugging Azusa in a similar fashion. I know that small hands is part of the K-ON animation style, but I still find it really awkward looking.

Megami has been featuring a lot of “happy” Fate/Zero posters, with this one showing Irisviel enjoying herself in a kimono at a shrine. I’m starting to wonder if they’ll ever have a dark poster for this series.

I was impressed with the composition in this poster, even if it is really fanservice-oriented.

I’m happy to see Nadeko and Tsukihi in the same poster, but I’m disappointed in the line art here. It looks like Tsukihi’s knee has a tumour.

Yuru Yuri may not have been very entertaining (at least for me), but at least it still looks cute.

Despite Symphogear’s animation quality issues, at least their posters look really nice. This one would’ve been on my wall instantly if there was a larger version; it kinda reminds me of Panty and Stocking without the panties.

Idolmaster posters always seem to look good for some reason, I think it’s because most of them are done like a photoshoot or on stage.

Remon is the final character in the Ano Natsu de Matteru lineup of posters, which combine to make the following image:

I think Kanna has the best pose, followed by Ichika, then the girl whose name I can’t remember, and finally Remon. Remon’s smile is actually a bit creepy looking here.

The Girl’s Avenue featured artist in this volume is Alpha (有葉) and you can find more of his works on his website http://alpha00buds.blog73.fc2.com/ (NSFW). I couldn’t find much information on Alpha other than he works for the eroge company Akabei Soft2. Most of his artwork seems rather generic, but I am very impressed with the image used for this poster. While it’s rather revealing, I like how everything is in the right proportions and the shading is simply amazing. The glow that the character gives off is also something you don’t see often.

This Shana poster seems like a tribute to the famous Toradora china dress poster from volume 109.

I don’t think there’s any doubt in anyone’s mind what draws people to watch Highschool DxD, and this poster seems to reflect that.

It’s weird seeing Holmes in Arsene’s outfit, she’s way too loli-looking to pull off that look.

The previous volume of Megami didn’t come with a calendar like I expected it too, but luckily, this one did. Unfortunately, it involves cutting it out of the magazine and I’m not sure how it’s supposed to go together since the instructions are in Japanese.

I think I’ll probably just leave these in here and wait for my Boku wa Tomodachi ga Sukunai school calendar to arrive.

And yes, if you didn’t already notice, all of the images for each month are bikini shots.

Something that caught my eye in this magazine was the K-ON jacket on the top left of this page. It looks really shiny and strangely cool even though there are a ton of moe faces on it.

The Anime Character Catch Up section covered some new and to-be-aired anime. One title that caught my eye was the To Heart Dungeon Travellers anime. To Heart is widely known in the anime community as a major harem anime, so it’s amusing to see them put all the girls into RPG roles.

Another title I would like to point out is Koi to Senkyo to Chocolate. It’s based on a visual novel which I haven’t played, but I love their school uniforms so I’m looking forward to seeing the anime.

The back cover has a beautiful illustration of Airi from Mashiroiro Symphony with some pink snowflakes. I would’ve liked to have a poster of this image, but sometimes things just don’t go the way you want.

One of the extras in this volume is a sort of mini Nanoha guidebook.

Inside was some information on the characters in the anime series and games.

There was also a short section on some Nanoha merchandise. Strangely enough, they have some Dog Days merchandise in here too.

The back cover isn’t as exciting as the front, but it’s still nice.

Also included was a pencil board substituted for a large poster. On one side we have Nanoha and Fate in their school uniforms.

On the other side we have Hayate’s friends from Nanoha A’s.  Personally, I would’ve liked a poster, but these pencil boards are actually quite nice. The only problem is that they get scratched up really easily and I can’t find a good use for them other than for looking at.

Several posters stood out for me in this volume: the Symphogear, Idolmaster, Zero no Tsukaima, and Alpha’s posters were really well done and I wish I had larger versions of them. The lewdness in this volume is about as mild as Megami gets, having nothing that’s too in-your-face. Replacing a large poster with a calendar, mini book, and pencil board was nice, and I’m sure Nanoha fans would appreciate this volume a lot more than others. The only downside is that the calendar didn’t come separately as in previous years, otherwise this was another good volume from Megami.

Now that the new year is here, it’s time to present the January 2012 issue of Megami Magazine, or volume 140. There are a few winter and Christmas-themed posters in this one as you can probably guess from the snowflakes on the front cover, though not as many as you would think. Here we have all of the puella magi alive and well at a skating rink. I love Mami’s prominence in this illustration, but it’s strange that Kyouko and Homura were barely given a second thought.

Compared to Horizon, IS is actually rather tame, usually only going as far as some beach poses. I’m actually surprised that Charlotte isn’t in this one.

We didn’t get to see much of the Araragi sisters in Bakemonogatari, but they seem to have the leading roles in Nisemonogatari. I thought they were just playing around in this illustration, but if you look closely, you’ll notice that their brother is getting crushed under there.

Trying to piece together that C3 is about based on these Megami posters is not working. So far it seems like Fear is a regular cosplayer, sporting a Santa outfit this time.

K-ON continues to promote their upcoming movie with UK-related posters in Megami Magazine. Azusa’s shirt has Japan and the UK highlighted in red, and I thought the chibi characters on the plane were adorable.

Ika Musume always goes for the cute look in her posters. Does anyone else wonder if the cats are thinking about eating her after they’re done with the shrimp? She is a squid after all.

I love artwork from Boku wa Tomodachi ga Sukunai, but I thought this poster was a bit plain.

I’m not a big Idolmaster fan, but I loved this poster, the outfits, the poses, the photoshoot-like backdrop; it’s all nicely composed.

I thought this illustration was done in good taste. Although a bit of the “wet tshirt” fanservice does show through, it’s not to the point where I would consider it ecchi. Is anyone else also impressed with how well-drawn Sana’s hair is?

Once again, we get another Ano Natsu poster, and as I suspected, they all combine to form one image.

It looks like there will be at least one more poster in the next volume of Megami Magazine in order to give that soda-holding hand a body.

I’ve been hearing a lot of people saying that they don’t like the character designs in Last Exile ~Fam, The Silver Wing~, but it’s not that bad. Unfortunately, this poster doesn’t showcase the animation quality, with Millia’s legs seemingly shrunk and dislocated. I do recommend watching the anime though.

Highschool DxD looks like a very fanservice-y anime if its posters are any indication.

In this volume’s Anime Character Catch Up, we get to see one of the new characters in Zero no Tsukaima on the bottom left of the first page. We also get a glimpse of Louise and Tiffania in their priestess outfits. On the following pages there was also an announcement of a second season of Kore wa Zombie Desu ka.

Advertisements like this one make me wish that Megami had used different illustrations for their posters. I would have preferred a poster of Yozora in this pose rather than the one of her and Sena.

More ads show off some more wonderful artwork, this time for the Victory Spark franchise. If these cards were available in English, I’d probably buy a few sets, especially from the Atelier series.

On the back cover is an ad for a rather unique anime: To Heart 2 Dungeon Travellers. It’s interesting how they turned the characters from a school harem into your typical RPG cast.

Fortunately, this time around, Megami Magazine included a large poster again. The first side features the heroines from teenage-fantasy anime Guilty Crown. Group shots like these should make everyone happy so long as there’s one character they like.

The reverse side has Sena from Boku wa Tomodachi ga Sukunai in a very saucy Santa outfit while licking a strawberry. To say this is a racy illustration is an understatement.

I found this volume of Megami to be average. The posters that stood out were the Puella Magi and Idolmaster posters, with Ika Musume coming in third for me. The rest were typical fare for Megami.

The cover for the December 2011 issue of Megami Magazine (volume 13) is one of the nicer looking ones with Sena and Yozora from Boku wa Tomodachi ga Sukunai against a fall  background. Considering the level of quality seen in some episodes of the anime, I’m glad that illustrations don’t suffer from the same problem.

For the most part, the posters in this volume were average and mainly contained series from this season with a few from the upcoming season. Any images not shown directly on this page, but are linked are ecchi and NSFW.

Charlotte from IS seems to be “the girl” from the series. Considering her looks, I don’t see how anyone can mistake her for a guy.

Once again, we get another Fate/Zero poster showing the beauty of family. For such a dark series, I’m surprised that Megami is displaying it in such a positive light. I love Rin’s yukata.

This K-ON poster wouldn’t have been too bad if Yui didn’t look like some kind of troll.

Inori fans will surely like this poster. It’s interesting that they actually took the time to write out some stuff on the booklet she’s reading.

We rarely got to see the puella magi in regular clothes, so this illustration is a treat. The downside is that the bench they’re sitting on looks like it’s just floating in another dimension, I would’ve preferred a park.

As cute as squid girl is, I’m sure she’s had that same smile for almost all of her posters.

The detail in this Working poster is rather nice, it’s disappointing that Aoi’s fingers look like they’re broken.

If you recall the previous Megami Magazine, there was also another Ano Natsu poster with some random limbs on the sides and the same background. I’m starting to think that they go together.

The 120th edition of Girl’s Avenue features the artist Mutsumi Masato (むつみまさと) whose site you can find at http://mutsumimasato2010.blog71.fc2.com/. Masato is a doujin and eroge artist and has worked on titles such as Love-Bride Eve and Big Bang Age. From what I’ve been able to find, he was a doujin artist in the late 90′s and then disappeared before releasing works again in the late 00′s. Naturally, all of his works are of sexy girls and are NSFW.

This character is Rias Gremory, a devil from the upcoming anime Highschool DxD. Based on this poster, I’m going to assume that the series will be fanservice-centric.

Shana seems to have taken up the damsel in distress position in the first part of the final season, and this poster reflects that. It’s a bit sad, I liked the cool Shana illustrations from the past.

I’ve been seeing Louise in a priestess/nun outfit a lot since the announcement of the final season of Zero no Tsukaima. It kind of reminds me of Index, but I doubt she’d  be doing anything like this.

Moving on to some actual content. Eri Kitamura and Yuka Iguchi have released the first and second volumes of Megami Radio on a pair of DJCD’s. If you aren’t familiar with Megami Radio, it discusses upcoming anime and you can listen to the latest broadcast on their site: http://www.megami-radio.com/. Of course, if you want a copy of Eri and Yuka’s voices to keep forever, that’s what the CD’s are for.

Besides the obvious, Megami’s Anime Character Catch Up covers some information about other less-known releases. Ones that I’m looking forward to are Accel World (Spring 2012), Dog Days 2 (TBA), and the brand new Toradora episode (December 21, 2011).

At this point I usually go over any extras that came with the magazine, but sadly, there were none. I was looking forward to this volume because Boku wa Tomodachi ga Sukunai was going to be featured on the cover, only to be disappointed with average posters, a condensed Figure StyleS section, and zero extras (not even a large poster). I really don’t recommend buying this one unless there’s one poster in here that you absolutely must have. Hopefully the January issue will include a calendar like in previous years.

This comes a few weeks late, but here is this month’s issue of Megami Magazine, volume 138. The magazine seems to have shifted away from Nanoha and friends and is now regularly featuring the girls from Idolmaster on their covers and in their posters. Volume 138 has a good mix of just about everything, so if you’re looking for variety, you may want to consider getting a copy. You can check out all of the posters included in this volume below. Remember that linked images are ecchi (a.k.a. NSFW).

The first poster comes from the new anime Guilty Crown and features Ayase and my favourite, Tsugumi. I like this one because it looks so cheerful and the small details like the emblem on Tsugumi’s sleeve and the buildings in the background are well-done.

If you’re a K-ON fan, you’ll surely be looking forward to the movie. I wasn’t aware that the UK had warm sunny beaches, but this poster seems to suggest otherwise. Mio, Ritsu, and Azusa cheering in the background is cute.

The last mother-daughter poster I remember seeing in Megami was of the Tohsaka family from Fate/Zero in volume 133. Now we have the Einzbern family, also from Fate/Zero. I love Irisviel’s white hat and coat, it matches her silver hair and the snowy background.

It’s sad that Triple H ended up as Double H in Mawaru Penguindrum. If I were in Himari’s position, I would’ve been heartbroken. This poster shows a world that could’ve been, or maybe it will be considering how unpredictable the series is.

Infinite Stratos seems to be one of those series that will be in Megami for a long time.

Everyone’s favourite squid girl makes an appearance in this volume. While the art style is simple, I’m still impressed with the smooth lines and nice shading. The only problem I have with this poster is that it doesn’t look like Ika’s umbrella is actually covering her.

Working is another anime with a simple art style, but it still looks good; this poster is a perfect example of that.

This Madoka poster looks like an alternate ending to the series. I am surprised at how drawing a few loose strands of hair on Madoka and Homura makes it look like they’ve been working up a sweat. Brilliant illustration in my opinion.

I’m not really liking this poster of Himeji and Minami from Baka Test. Himeji’s legs look further away than the water, but they’re in front of it.

This is Megami’s second Ano Natsu de Matteru poster. I was dumbfounded as to why there is a random hand coming from the side holding a pop can. Other than that oddity, the illustration itself is decent.

Considering how dark the final season of Shana is looking, I welcome this calmer-looking poster with Yoshida mixing Shana’s bow. Both of their outfits look nicer than anything they wear in the anime.

Kyoukai Senjou no Horizon seems largely based around fanservice.

The featured Girl’s Avenue artist in this volume is Fuyuno Haruaki (ふゆの春秋), you can find his website at http://technofuyuno.net/. He is the artist behind the above illustration, and as you can see, he uses very vivid and bright colours. This reminds me of the concept of painting marine animals in space for some reason.

I just noticed that the cast of Nekogami Yaoyorozu have very bright hair.

One of the great things about anime originating from visual novels is that they have some nice school uniform designs. This Mashiroiro Sympohny poster looks nice at first, but if you look at Miu’s knees, they’re actually out of place. They also forgot to include Sakuno, my favourite girl in the series.

I commented in my Fall round-up how the girls in Maji de Watashi ni Koi Shinasai were manly and I’m going to stick with that no matter how many of them they put in lingerie.

I admit that I do not like the character designs in Kamisama Dolls. Sticking nekomimi on them isn’t going to change anything. On the up side, that tea cup in the cupboard looks pretty.

Exploding clothes are a staple of poorly written anime. It seems it has also made it into Megami Magazine with Manyuu Hikenchou.

If I had a choice, I would’ve had a poster if this Mashiroiro Symphony image rather than the one on the grass.

Within the magazine itself is some content about upcoming anime, not least of which is the new K-ON movie. If you didn’t know already, the light music club will be travelling to England, though I think the swimsuit scene will turn out being a fantasy.

A couple of anime that I’m looking forward to are Nisemonogatari and the third (plus fourth) Rebuild of Evangelion movie. Nisemonogatari is a spin-off series of Bakemonogatari, one of my favourites from 2009. The Eva movies should be a treat no matter what, although I’m disappointed about pirate Asuka.

This is the first time I’ve seen Megami fill a page out of their figures section with dolls. I know a number of you are probably into dollfies and whatever other brands there are, but I have an aversion to them thanks to watching Child’s Play 20 years ago. Chuckie, and any doll for that matter, still gives me the creeps. On the bright side, the figures and dolls are kept on separate pages so I can just flip really fast through the doll section :)

The double-sided B2 poster this time is really ecchi, but they come from two series that I love. The first side features the four most popular girls from Boku wa Tomodachi ga Sukunai lying on a bed. Yozora and Sena seem to be sharing a single uniform.

That wraps up the main contents of this volume. Several posters stood out for me this time: the Guilty Crown, K-ON, Madoka, Ikoku Meiro no Croisée, and Fuyuno Haruaki posters were all high quality illustrations. If you don’t mind a large ecchi poster as a bonus, then this would be a good volume to get to fill up some barren walls.

The May 2011 issue of Megami Magazine (volume 132) has one of the nicest covers (I think) in a long time. If you don’t recognize this pink-haired girl with doggy ears, she’s Princess Millhoire F. Biscotti from the anime Dog Days. I think she’s absolutely adorable (and it helps that Yui Horie is her voice actress) so I think whoever chose the cover for volume 132 did a good job.

There are quite a number of posters covering the spring season this time as well as some from the previous season. You can see them all below. As usual, any ecchi material is not previewed on this page, you will need to click on the links to see them.

While its been a while since K-ON ended, it still appears in this volume of Megami. I think it’s going to be like Nanoha and find its way into every volume from now on. There wasn’t anything special about this poster, which just seems really ordinary.

I would be very surprised if Kurisu actually did go somewhere without her red tie in the anime. On the other hand, I can totally see Mayushii and the pink-haired girl (I forgot her name) dressing up like this. The curved horizon is a nice artistic effect.

Erio is a serious contender for the top spot in my list of top 10 anime girls this year, and this poster certainly helps her. It’s nice to see that she gets sparkles not only in the anime, but in illustrations too.

The only thing I really liked about Yumekui Merry was the cool character designs, so I’m rather upset that they decided to make a poster of the girls in the bath. I’d much rather have one of them engaged in battle or at least doing some fighting poses.

The art style in Dog Days is nicely represented in this poster. Whoever drew it captured the cuteness of all the characters along with their personalities. The splashing water at the bottom also helps to highlight the characters.

This is the full image that was used on the cover of the magazine and shows Millhoire in all her cuteness. The folds in her dress are nicely done, her facial expression looks happy and bright, and the background looks cool. I actually wish they had used this image to make a B2 sized poster.

The characters from Hidan no Aria seem really skinny. At least they have nice swimsuits.

Anyone looking forward to Fate/Zero will probably like this poster. It’s so strange to see Saber not wearing her white and blue clothes.

Onii-chan no Koto has been getting quite a number of posters recently. The previous ones have looked pretty good, but I’m not to happy about the extra lines they drew on the shoulders and other parts in this poster.

This was cute and funny. Except for the lower part of th legs being really thin, I thought this poster was really nicely drawn.

Idolmaster seems to be getting quite a bit of Megami posters recently too.

I love Aoi Nishimata’s artwork and character designs, but I thought this illustration was too plain. The girls are down to their underwear and the background is just a bed and some purple. I know it’s a fanservice pose, but I expected something a bit more detailed for Ore-tachi ni Tsubasa wa Nai.

I think this Hozhizora e Kakaru Hashi poster explains the anime pretty well. I love the character designs.

The poses for this Softenni poster has the girls in great poses, but fails to meet its full potential by using a crappy background.

This is my favourite poster out of this volume. It shows that you can make swimsuit/beach with detail despite the lack of clothing. Nanoha’s ribbons and Fate’s cloth thingy (what is that called anyways?) add a sense of style, and the glowy things at the bottom direct your attention upwards.

This is another example of a good poster. It’s dynamic, bright, colourful, detailed, and all of the body proportions seem right.

The illustrations of the characters is great in this poster, but sadly, there’s no splashing water or anything in the background to compliment it like the previous ones.

I’m finding Astarotte’s Toy to be a rather cute and funny anime, and I think this poster manages to show that side of it.

Someone’s going to have to refresh my memory, that blond is a guy right?

I really like the left half of this Madoka poster, but Madoka herself seems a bit lacking in colour and shading compared to the other characters. It may be due to the fact that Kyubey creates a huge white spot in the middle of everything and Madoka isn’t wearing her mahou shoujo clothes.

Those were all of the posters in this volume, which left me a bit disappointed. In all but the oldest volumes that I own, there has always been a Girl’s Avenue poster. If you don’t remember what that is, it’s a single pin-up poster that features artwork from a selected artist. It’s a good way of finding out about people I would otherwise never have heard of, so I hope they didn’t remove it permanently.

Besides the posters, below are some of the things within the content of the magazine.

Included in this volume was a free dust jacket for the Nanoha comics. If you’re wondering why it’s so small, it’s because that’s how big the standard Japanese manga is. I was surprised the first time I saw Japanese manga, because they’re physically smaller than the English-translated manga you find in bookstores here.

This is some awesome sportswear. I’m not a big fan of the K-ON anime, but I love the characters. If these clothes wouldn’t get me any weird stares, I’d wear them.

Of all the figures that Megami covers, I think the only ones I would want are the Miku figure and the one of Mio sitting on a strawberry. The rest just don’t look that great or are too revealing.

On the back cover is an ad reminding everyone that Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Kira will be out on June 21. I’ve loved everything from the Higurashi series so far, so I’m looking forward to this. Anyone who hasn’t seen the series should give it a chance.

One of the extras included was this mini Madoka guidebook.

Inside are some details about the characters, screenshots, and the fanart featured at the end of each episode. There are images on the front and back covers that you can cut out and use as postcards, but I doubt anyone will be doing that.

I can’t say that Inifnite Stratos really caught my attention last season, but wow, this is a nice poster. All of the clothing and hair scattered everywhere must have made it difficult to draw. What I like about it is that the girls are in a circle so you can display the poster in any orientation and it’ll still look right.

On the back side is also a very nice poster. I’m curious as to which timeline it’s from because I can’t imagine glasses Homura wasting time at the beach when she could be out foiling Kyubey’s plans.

While there were some pin-up posters that I really liked, they were mostly due to the art style rather than and special attention to detail, so I’d have to say that this volume was of average quality. On the bright side, the large B2 size poster compensates for that with a detailed Infinite Stratos image and a cute Madoka one.

It looks like Nanoha has some competition when it comes to appearances on Megami Magazine covers. This is the second time that Puella Magi Madoka Magica has been featured on the cover. The first time, in volume 129,  had Madoka in her puella magi outfit, volume 131 here has Homura in a black dress.

I think these are the most colourful group of maids that I’ve seen. The striped stockings look nice, and that parfait looks yummy.

Fans of the lolis from To Aru Majutsu no Index will probably like this poster.

The Yumekui Merry anime was less than spectacular, but I loved the character designs. I also like cat girls, so this poster is definitely a keeper for me. Merry looks super cute, and the expression on Yui’s face is priceless.

This poster is rather plain compared to most, there’s a significant lack of detail beyond the outline of the girls.

Megami once again manages to make Onii-chan no Koto Nanka Zenzen Suki Janain Dakara ne look normal. I’m impressed at how they can fix up strange-looking animation and make it look better for their posters.

Nurse Mio and Mugi look really cute here. Sadly, nurses don’t actually dress like that here. I wonder if it’s something only found in Japan…

I absolutely love Yoshika’s kimino here, it looks so vibrant and beautiful. I also enjoyed all of the other strike witches as dolls in the background.

I was hoping that Megami would include a nice background with Homura, but she also suffers from the horrible backgrounds that the cover illustrations always get. While I think her dress is nicely done, the face seems to be a bit off.

For the 113th featured artist of Girl’s Avenue, Megami covers Ikeda Yasuhiro (池田靖宏) (NSFW). He has some very interesting character designs, like this girl, who has a nuclear rocket pack strapped onto her, all the while listening to some tunes. Unique character designs aren’t his only specialty, as you can see, there’s also plenty of detail put into the hair, facial expression, and folds in her clothing. The only complaint I have about this illustration is that the girl’s ankles seem too thin.

I loved this Kore wa Zombie Desu Ka poster because all of the girls are in school uniforms, even Eu. The blatant exposure of panties is a bit unnecessary though.

The fanservice isn’t as bad in this Sora no Otoshimono poster, at least some effort was put into making it funny rather than arousing. My favourite part about it is the chibi version of Ikaros.

Now this isn’t a poster, but I just loved the illustration. The lineart and colours are perfect, and the pose shows enough skin to be hot but not lewd. I don’t know much about Kaminomi, but Kanon Nakagawa is apparently a character from the series and released her first album recently.

Another thing that caught my eye in this volume was something in the anime round-up section. This anime, called Ro-Kyu-Bu has a beautifully designed and drawn character. Her name is Tomoka Minato and she caught my attention because she reminds me of the girls that Tinkle draws, and those of you who have read my Etsu posts know that Tinkle is my favourite pair of artists. Looking into the series, I found that the character designs were done by Takayuki Noguchi. That didn’t feel right to me though, because Tomoka looked too much like a Tinkle girl to be from Noguchi. Further research showed that I was right, and the original character designs were done by Tinkle for the manga. What kind of fan would I be if I couldn’t identify my favourite artists’ drawing styles :)

I will probably be watching this anime when it comes out regardless of what it’s about. Finally seeing Tinkle character designs in an anime is just too much to miss.

There weren’t too many new/upcoming figures featured in Megami that I was interested in. I thought about getting the Erika Sendo Beach Queens figure by Wave, but I didn’t think the face looked right so I passed it up.

I haven’t been including these in my Megami posts recently, but the war between the major TCG companies seems to be heating up. BothChaos and Victory Spark are advertising in the back of the magazine now.

Not to be out-done, Weib Schwarz has also included a free card of the Idolmaster girls with this volume.

The back cover of the magazine features Charlotte from Princess Lover, along with a reminder that the blu-ray for the series is now on sale.

As usual, there’s a large poster included with Megami. This time it’s one of those thin, elongated ones and it features the two most (probably) popular mahou shoujo right now, Madoka and Nanoha, both in swimsuits. Personally, I think they made Madoka look really fat, not as in overweight, but fat as in baby fat. I guess it fits with the drawing style, but it’s ironic that Nanoha is younger and has a more lady-like build. Nanoha has also got sparkles everywhere while Madoka just got some blue dots in the background. I think it’s obvious who wins this battle.

The illustration quality of the posters this time around was average in my opinion. There were some nice ones like the Strike Witches poster, the Houkago no Pleiades poster, and the Yumekui Merry poster, but there was nothing outstanding. The Freezing posters were more of an eyesore unless you like big-boobed girls just standing around with no clothes. On the bright side, I now have a new anime to look forward too, as well as a nice Nanoha poster to add to my collection.

I was in for a little surprise when I opened up the March 2011 issue of Megami Magazine, also known as volume 130. Unlike all of the other volumes that just come with a pretty anime girl (or girls) on a dull cover, this one has SPARKLES! In this volume, Megami decided to embed some tons of bright, multi-coloured, sparkly stars in the cover. You can only see some of them in the picture because of the angle, but they fill the whole page. I think it’s rather fitting considering they featured the girls from Idolmaster on the cover this time.

Enough about the cover though, lets see what kind of posters they have this time around (ecchi images linked):

While Nyantype always includes one larger poster in every issue, its been a long time since Megami has included one of these double fold-out posters in their magazines. Considering how rarely they include these larger posters, I’m glad that they decided to put the girls from Puella Magi Madoka Magica on one side. The artwork isn’t anything spectacular and it’s a shame that Kyouko is missing, but it’s still nice to have and look at.

On the reverse is Yui with a rather late Valentine’s Day chocolate. It’s cute how Ritsu, Mio, and Mugi are spying on her from behind the tree.

I thought this Index poster was rather dull for a Megami poster. The swimsuits look identical (no frills?) except for a few slight changes, and the expressions and poses aren’t all that great.

This Yumekui Merry poster, on the other hand, is much better. It has nice poses, a frilly swimsuit (yay), and some water splashing.

This Dragon Crisis poster is hidden for skimpiness.

A brilliantly done poster. Victorica is basically the only reason I’m watching Gosick now, so I’m happy to have this poster of her. The lighting compliments her hair and face, while the books are arranged to draw your attention to her as well. I also love the details in Victorica’s dress and the flowers on the chair she’s sitting in.

I never thought I’d ever see Kuroneko in a swimsuit, it just doesn’t seem right. Kirino on the other hand, seems to be trying to be fashionable while at the beach, as expected.

The panty stealing episode in Strike Witches must’ve been really popular considering how many images of panty stealing show up in Megami. Either that or someone really wanted Lynette to have participated (hence the poster).

The colours seemed a bit off in this poster, but then again I’m not following Freezing, so what do I know.

This lovely warrior maden was illustrated by Kantaka (かんたか, http://www.kantaka69.com, NSFW). I love the designs on her chest armour and the shield, or is that a weapon of some kind? The flowers are also a nice touch and give her a more fragile appearance rather than the tough fighter that the armour would’ve portrayed her as.

Sora no Otoshimono posters seem to swing back and forth between extemely ecchi and not ecchi. I’m surprised that the girls don’t freeze.

Other than that playing card looking rather small, I didn’t find anything wrong with this poster even though something doesn’t feel right.

I’m not fond of the animation in Onii-chan whatever (that title is way too long), but Megami has somehow managed to make it look decent. I think the park in the background helps out a lot.

No matter how many Mitsudomoe posters I see, the character designs still freak me out. I wish that Megami could find a way to make it less repulsive (no offence intended).

I quite liked this poster of Haruna and Eucliwood. There are some things that need fixing, like Eucliwood being flatter than Haruna and the size of their arms/legs, but overall it’s cute. The lizards and eyeballs in that bowl is also amusing.

I didn’t expect Megami to start churning out posters from the upcoming season yet. This is from the anime Hidan no Aria, which will be airing in a few weeks. Some people have mentioned that this girl reminds them of Shana, but I don’t see it.

The back cover is just as elaborate as the front cover, with Idolmaster taking up the whole page and the sparkly stars everywhere.

Included in the magazine was a pencil board. On one side is Fate from the Nanoha series holding a body pillow.

On the reverse side is Fate again, but this time drawn in an artist’s personal style (I don’t know who drew it) rather than the anime style.

Along with the pencil board, there were three print-outs sealed in plastic.

The prints are on regular poster paper and are of images that have been used in previous magazines.

It seems Megami has also changed up the B2 size poster they include in most issues. Usually, the poster is just inserted within the pages of the magazine, but this time it’s actually physically attached to it. You have to cut the poster out if you want to put it on your wall.

Both sides of the poster are of the Idolmaster girls and they use the same images featured on the front and back covers of the magazine.

If you’re a big Idolmaster fan, then you would probably enjoy this issue because of the covers and the poster. There were quite a lot of swimsuit posters this time around, probably an indication of spring. The two posters that stood out the most for me were the Gosick poster and the illustration by Kantaka. While some of the posters were really dull, most of them were decent and there were very few flaws. With the selection of posters, the special cover, and the extras included, this is one of the better Megami releases.

February is going to end in less than 2 hours so I figured I’d get this post on the February 2011 issue of Megami Magazine up, also known as volume 129. With Madoka dominating the anime scene this season, it’s no surprise that she’s the cover girl of this issue. She’s even holding onto a heart-shaped box, which I guess was for Valentine’s Day. There’s actually quite a bit of ecchi in here, but as usual, ecchi posters will be linked rather than shown directly. Since I’m tired and sick today, this’ll be a short post.

To Love-ru seems to be a rather popular series, it’s getting yet another season, but I still haven’t seen a single episode of it. This girl is rather pretty though.

I love the three different types of Misaka’s. My favourite are the Misaka imoutos, cute and far less violent.

K-ON has gotten some maid outfit posters before, but not one including Azusa, and especially not one with Azusagi (Azusa + Usagi).

I love how the forground seems so quiet and peaceful, but Mami is in a dark room overlooking everything. Kinda seems like Mami is watching over everyone from the afterlife.

Cute fanservice. The vibrant colours and attention to detail are really good in this poster. This is from Time Paladin Sakura, a spinoff of Da Capo if you haven’t heard of it.

It’s kinda weird seeing a Christmas poster in a February volume. I guess they couldn’t get it ready in time for the previous ones.

I generally like anime characters in Chinese dresses, but this one seemed a bit too plain.

This poster REALLY creeps me out (in more ways than one).

In the content sections of the magazine, there are some snippets about the upcoming Touhou x Animate anime. The character designs aren’t the best I’ve seen, but they look decent. Is anyone else looking forward to this anime?

It seems the back of Megami is still advertising To Heart.

Included with this volume was a little desk calendar with exchangeable sheets for each month of 2011. Unfortunately, I never got the chance to use the January sheet.

My favourite months are September and November, you can see why for yourselves.

The sheets are insterted into a piece of plastic that you fold up. It’s nice and shiny so it stands out more.

You can expect quite a bit of ecchi content in Megami Magazine, but I thought there was an overload of it in this volume. Of course, ecchi isn’t bad or anything, but some more high quality posters would be nice. My favourites this time around were the Yosuga no Sora and Time Paladin Sakura posters, not for the fanservice but because of the amazing use of colours and attention to detail.
