Time for a look at another volume of Megami Magazine. This issue has a lot of goodies in terms of posters, and some very very nice extras which you will find near the bottom of this post.

Haven’t seen one of these larger posters in a while. The front features Kyou and Ryou Fujibayashi from Clannad.

On the reverse side are the girls from everyone’s favourite anime this season, K-ON. After seeing Mugi-chan in a nurse costume and here in a maid costume, I have concluded that she should be a professional cosplayer. Poor Mio looks so embarrassed.

I wonder how Nodoka is able to keep that towel around herself.

I finally have the Taiga nopan poster ^.^

Queen’s Blade is too much ecchi and not enough story for my tastes.

I watched the first episode of Asura Cryin and it just looked like an amalgamation of every anime genre possible: supernatural, magic, mystery, adventure, mecha, ninjas, etc.

Not sure which anime this is from, but I like the girl on the left (pink hair is always a plus).

I thought this was a very nice poster of Fate and Teana. I think Teana looks better with her hair down.

I was too busy looking at the girl to notice the huge number of cats in the background at first.

Currently enjoying Natsu no Arashi, but I wish the animation was a bit better.

Yoko’s right oppai looks really deformed with the strap like that…

It looks like Ein doesn’t go anywhere without her gun.

Second episode of Kissxsis comes out on May 22.

I really like this Higurashi poster. I wish the Higurashi no Naku Koro Ni Rei OVA episodes would be released sooner.

One more Nagi poster for all the Kannagi fans.

I liked the variety of posters that they had this time around. Only K-ON had more than one poster so there’s sure to be something for everyone in this volume. I also liked how they included past, current, and upcoming series this time. On to more of the magazine itself:

Looking forward to To Aru Kagaku no Railgun. More Mikoto and Kuroko ftw (though I actually like Kuroko more than Mikoto).

Can’t wait for the new Nanoha movie to come out.

I just love Fate’s pose on this page.

I read the Hatsukoi Limited manga, and although it was easy to get lost in all the characters, it was still enjoyable. I would have to say my favourite character is Koyoi.

I did not know that the school swimsuit mecha nurse girl nana figure was cast-offable >.>

Episode 3 of Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Rei is almost out, only 1 more week! The 3rd and 4th episodes will be released on June 24 and August 21 respectively.

As I mentioned at the beginning of this post, this volume came with some very nice extras, and here they are:

First is a Nanoha pencil board, with Nanoha on one side

and Fate on the other. I really love Fate’s pose, hope they make a poster of it in the future.

The other extra that came with this volume is Megami Magazine’s volume 1.5 of the Nanoha Visual Collection. Since it’s volume 1.5, there aren’t as many pics as a full volume, but they’re still really nice. Resized scans are below, the originals were too huge, but if enough people want them then I might post them somewhere.

This is definitely one of the better Megami Magazines I’ve seen (maybe even the best). Lots of variety to appeal to a larger audience, and although there was no large poster this time, I thought the Nanoha goodies more than made up for that. If you’re planning on buying a Megami Magazine, I would recommend volume 109.

Now with that said, this episode was incredibly sad. As expected, Ushio has the same illness that Nagisa had, meaning that she’s incredibly weak and prone to long periods of a crippling fever. Probably suspecting that she doesn’t have much time, Ushio basically begs Tomoya to go on a trip back to see the flower patch that they went to a few episodes back. Considering Ushio’s condition, Tomoya obviously refuses her request at first, but I don’t think any good father can say no to their daughter for too long. Finally fiving in to Ushio’s request, Tomoya takes her outside in the freezing cold (actually, the snow looked clumped together so the temperature was nowhere near what it is now at -30C *grumble*) and heads to the train station.

Unfortunately, the fever, long walk, and cold temperature was too much for Ushio to handle and she collapses in her father’s arms. Ushio then says that everything is dark and asks if they’re on the train, and Tomoya tells her that they are. She then tells her father she loves him before (we presume) she passes away. Now, most viewers would probably agree that Ushio did indeed pass away at the end of the episode (the title was “The End of The World” after all), but knowing Key stories, anything is possible.

Both AIR and Planetarian (which are games also made by Key) had sad endings where a character dies at the end of the story. Based on these two endings, I think it would be safe to assume that Ushio really is dead and not just unconscious. However, as many Clannad fans know, Key also made Kanon which had an almost-sad ending. By almost-sad I mean that it was assumed a character was dead, but then that character appears again in like the last 5 minutes of the series alive and well. Personally, I don’t like endings that all of a sudden switch from really sad to really happy, it just seems like the writers are trying to keep fans of a certain character happy rather than write a good story.

Well, as of right now, there’s no way to tell if Ushio is really dead or if Key will pull another Kanon and bring her back to life. There’s still 2 more episodes in the series so it could go either way, and the next episode preview doesn’t give any hints either as it just shows that girl and robot lying in the snow (what’s the point of those two anyways?)

I had so much paper build up on my desk during the last couple of weeks that my copy of Megami Magazine volume 106 got lost in all of it. This volume features Nagi and Zange on the cover and includes part 2 of the book-in-book section for Kannagi. There were some nice posters this time, but I don’t know where half of them are from, I guess I’m really falling behind on my anime.

Mmm, melon soda sure seems tempting. Has anyone else noticed how suggestive this Akikan poster is, a pop can in a very enviable position and a banana gun?

The ever fashionable Ami shows off her adorable Minori and Taiga purse straps.

It’s like they’re ranking Kaori, Mikoto, and Index here from top to bottom. Poor Index is at the bottom, but she doesn’t seem to mind.

Is it just me, or is Kuro missing some vital clothing?

Nanami really likes those gero frog things.

I’ve never heard of this anime. Is this girl’s cat ears and tail actually ears and a tail, or is that just her hair shaped strangely? Also, what are those strange things trying to strip her?

Out of the pull-out posters in this volume, I liked the Toradora one best since Ami is my favourite character. I also liked the one with the semi-cat-girl even though I’ve never seen the anime she’s from. My third favourite would be the Akikan poster for obvious reasons :)

Fans of Akikan and Asu no Yoichi will be pleased to hear that the first dvds will be coming out on April 15, and March 25 respectively.

There was quite a bit of info on Kannagi, all in Japanese though.

I really liked the cover of the Kannagi book-in-book, really nice art.

Within the book-in-book were a lot of screenshots from the anime along with information on all the characters.

The back cover also had some nice artwork.

As you may or may not know, the 3rd season of Zero no Tsukaima was censored during the tv broadcasts to help increase sales of the dvds which aren’t censored. The last volume came out on January 23, and the box set will be coming out soon on March 6.

One of the things I like about Megami Magazine is that you find things that you wouldn’t normally find anywhere else, like this Kemeko DX fighting game for the DS. Now i just need to figure out how I’m going to get a hold of a copy of this game.

Two new dating sims are featured in the PC games section: Flyable Heart and Oretachi ni Tsubasa wa Nai – Under The Innocent Sky. The illustrations for the second one were done by Aoi Nishimata, the illustrator for the Shuffle! characters.

The back cover of the magazine features To Heart 2 and Utawarerumono.

This time, the large poster that comes with every copy of Megami Magazine features Nagisa from Clannad in her waitresss uniform.

The reverse side has Asuka and Rei from Evangelion.

There was also a bonus item this time, a double-sided Kannagi pencil board.

It was called a pencil board, but I prefer to think of it as a useless (though pretty) thin piece of plastic. This “pencil board” is too flimsy to actually use as a pencil board, and it doesn’t work too well as a mousepad either. I guess you can’t really expect any quality from a free item from a magazine.

I thought the quality of this volume was above average. There were some very nice pull-out posters and the extra Kannagi stuff was a treat (even though I don’t watch Kannagi). I also had a tough time deciding which side of the large poster to show on my wall. In the end I decided to go with the Evangelion side.

It looks like the CBSA decided to do a random inspection of my package to look for any illegal material. It’s good to know that those guys are doing their jobs and keeping bad things out of the country, but I wish it didn’t delay delivery by so much.

Anyways, on to the magazine:

This volume focuses on the panty paradise that is Strike Witches. I had actually expected them to have done this earlier considering Strike Witches has been airing for a while now. I watched the first episode of the series and the character designs were nice, but all the panty flashing was just too much for me to handle. That and the fact that girls flying around with propellers strapped to their legs and shooting aliens is just a little silly.

Now moving on to the posters:

I haven’t seen this anime, but swimsuits are always good :)

The so-called “flat-chested goddess” Nagi from Kannagi seemed to be pretty popular, but that popularity has seemed to drop due to some rumour that she’s not a virgin. Sometimes I wonder what goes through the minds of people who would even care if a fictitious character is a virgin or not.

Does Index ever wash her clothes? It seems like she’s always wearing the same ones.

*nosebleed* one word: HAWT!

I’m sure a lot of guys would like to have x-ray vision like this :)

The characters in Macademi Wasshoi really do look like children. It’s a good thing Megami Magazine doesn’t have any nudity or I might’ve had the police knocking on my door since it was inspected at the border.

For once, bathing steam is a good thing. As I mentioned before, no nudity = no police.

This picture looked so casual at first, but then I noticed something weird. Who brushes their teeth in their bed? Wouldn’t you normally do that by the sink?

Don’t particularly like the art in the two pictures above. The faces in both of them seem too pudgy.

I’m sure Kagami x Konata fans would like to have this poster.

Hmm, not sure which anime this is from, but the girls look nice.

This volume sure does look like it has a lot of stuff pedobear would enjoy…

M.M. is my favourite character in Kemeko DX, but she just doesn’t look right here. Maybe her face was just drawn differently.

That’s all for the posters in this volume. Other than the one with Haruka and Shiina, I didn’t think any of them really stood out. There were also quite a few posters featuring loli characters, not sure if that was intentional or not.

It looks like Clannad is slowly disappearing from the magazine, but at least there was the poster of Sanae, and this advertisement featuring Nagisa:

It looks like the first DVD for Clannad ~After Story~ went on sale a couple days ago.

Macademi Wasshoi and Kemeko DX have been in the last few volumes of Megami Magazine. I guess they’re just that popular.

There hasn’t been much news on the new Nanoha movie lately. Does anyone know when it comes out?

Like I said before, this volume focuses on Strike Witches so there were quite a few pages on it. I thought it was funny how the character pages zoomed in on the panties for all the girls.

In the middle of the magazine was this little pink envelope.

Inside the envelope was a Weib Schwarz card of the lovely Fate from Nanoha StrikerS.

This was something interesting I spotted in the games section. Looks like there’s going to be a Haruhi game for the Wii. I wonder if they’ll make an english version.

The back of the magazine had a couple of pages advertising the Weib Schwarz cards.

The big poster that came with this volume has the same image as the one featured on the cover with Yoshika Miyafuji, Francesca Lucchini, and Lynette Bishop.

The other side of the poster has Taiga Aisaka and Minori Kushieda at the beach.

Overall, I didn’t really like this volume as much as the previous ones, probably because it didn’t have much stuff from anime that I’m currently watching. Hopefully the next volume (which was shipped last week) will be a bit better.

Needless to say, I was a bit confused, so I emptied the box and found this at the bottom:

Now I had ordered this Clannad After Story calendar, but I had expected it to come in a regular package used for things like documents, not an actual box. I guess that’s why the shipping cost was so high, I got sent a bunch of air and paper from Japan.

The calendar is actually pretty nice with some wonderfully coloured pages. Unfortunately, they put two months on a page so there aren’t as many pictures as I had hoped :(

For January and February, there’s a nice picture of the Fujibayashi sisters, Kotomi, and Nagisa. I wonder where Nagisa got that giant dango from…

Fuko makes an appearance in March and April.

I like this one for May and June. I wish I could have three pretty girls wake me up in the morning instead of a noisy alarm clock.

I swear I’ve seen that background somewhere before.

They have too much Nagisa and Kyou, and not enough Tomoyo and Kotomi :(

This calendar was a bit pricey, especially with the shipping, but I liked all the pictures, and having an anime calendar is way better than having one from the bank or some charity.

I finally got my copy of Megami Magazine Volume 101 earlier this week. The packaging has “Do Not Bend” in big black letters so someone tried to bend it in half; I really hate people like that. One thing about Megami Magazine is that they have what look like fan-made manga inserted between some pages that only stick out halfway from the spine. So when the magazine was bent, all of the regular pages ended up getting these little folds where the manga pages ended. Fortunately the folds weren’t too deep so I was able to straighten out the poster pages. Well, that’s enough rambling about the postal service. I took pictures of all the posters this time, and here they are:

The first poster is of Kagami and Tsukasa from Lucky Star. Personally, I think this poster looks a little bit weird. I think maybe their hair colour is off.

On the other side of the Lucky Star poster is Haruka in a maid uniform ^.^ This one is definitely going up on my wall, no point trying to keep the magazine in good condition when it’s already damaged.

More Zero no Tsukaima in this issue. I wonder why Louise has a towel ready to cover herself when they’re changing behind the tarp.

A nice pic of Birdy from Tetsuwan Birdy Decode. I swear, steam and bath foam has something against us guys.

I’ve only read the first volume of Negima, so I can’t remember any of these girls’ names.

I haven’t seen Ikkitousen, but this poster would be very good advertising for it. Makes me consider taking a look at the anime.

Hidamari Sketch was too loli for me. I prefer girls to be a bit closer to my age or at least look like they’re in they’re teens.

I watched a couple of eps of Koihime Musou, but the plot didn’t really interest me so I dropped it.

Looks like some of the girls from Clannad are out for a festival. I wish they had a poster of Kotomi :(

A couple pages on Gurren Lagann. I’m guessing it’s talking about the upcoming movie.

There’s quite a few pages on new anime that will be coming out soon. I’m really looking forward to both Clannad After Story and Tora Dora this season. Both of these will actually begin airing this week in Japan. Clannad will air on Oct. 3, and Tora Dora will air on Oct. 1.

Like I said before, there’s these little manga pages inserted in the magazine. Here’s one of Zero no Tsukaima. I wish I knew what they were saying :/

The Lucky Star OVA came out a couple days ago. I’m still waiting for some subs before I watch it.

The Higurashi no Naku Koro Ni OVA (OAV) will be coming out on DVD on Dec. 26, and it’ll be out on Blu-ray on Jan. 23, 2009. I wish the release date was a little bit earlier, Higurashi was one of my favourite anime.

Some info on Penguin Musume and Hidamari Sketch. I would’ve liked it if they had some posters of Sakura Nankyoku, she’s so cool ^.^

At the back of the magazine is some info on adult games. I wonder if people in Japan have a problem with promoting adult material in a magazine that anyone can buy. I also noticed that all of the games were labelled with Win, PS2, PSP, or NDS. I guess the PS3 isn’t very popular even on its home turf.

On the back of the magazine is a lovely picture of Rika and Hanyu in some frilly dresses. I think Rika looks really cute with the cat ears and tail ^.^

There’s also a useful little table at the bottom with the release dates for the Higurashi OVA. It looks like I’ll have to wait until August of next year before the last episode is released :(

And of course, with every issue of Megami Magazine comes a large double-sided poster. This one had Yoko from Gurren Lagann on one side and the girls from Strike Witches on the other.

Last week I ordered Megami Magazine Vol. 100 before they were sold out and I finally got it in the mail today. Unfortunately, the magazine came in a thin cardboard envelope without any bubble wrap so the corners were dented a bit.

This is the first anime magazine I’ve ever bought, but I’ve heard a lot of good things about Megami Magazine and I certainly wasn’t disappointed with the content. There were a lot of posters that you can look at; I took some pics of my favourite ones:

Mika and Haruka Nogizaka along with what appears to be a Yuuto doll from Nogizaka Haruka no Himitsu.

Tomoyo is my second-favourite Clannad character after Kotomi.

I’ve never played or watched To Heart 2, but I really like this poster of Tamaki Kosaka.

Right now I’m debating whether or not to cut these posters out of the magazine so I can stick them on my wall. On one hand, I really hate it when any of my books get damaged and cutting pages out is about the worst thing you could do. But on the other hand, I really like these posters and it would be really nice to be able to look at them every day. I guess if I don’t make up my mind soon they’ll just end up staying in the magazine.

Besides all the nice posters, Megami Magazine also has a bunch of articles on stuff, but I can’t read Japanese so I can’t tell you what this “stuff” is. Although I have no clue what the text says, there’s still some more nice pictures to look at:

As part of their 100th volume celebration, the magazine also came with a memorial book. Inside are pictures from I believe some of the older volumes and some more text that I can’t read :)

Along with the memorial book, there was a large poster inserted into the magazine. One side is promoting the first Nanoha movie, and the other side is Lucky Star.

I really liked this magazine so I decided to buy a 1-year subscription (there goes all my money again). I hear Vol. 101 is already out so I should be getting it in a couple weeks or so. I bought from a different store this time so hopefully they do a better job of packaging than the store I bought this volume from.

For those of you who don’t know, Botan comes from the anime/game “Clannad” and is a pet wild boar. This plushie was produced by Cospa and retails for around $35.

Botan is a lot fatter than I expected him to be, but that’s good because that means he’s softer and squisher than I expected ^.^

Nekomimi Tsuruya just couldn’t resist petting Botan :)

And so, Botan joins the rest of the gang on my chair. As you can see, I’m still missing Quatchi, which I need to complete my 2010 winter olympics plushie collection. There’s a little room to Botan’s left for another plushie. If I could find a plushie of Potato from AIR then that spot wouldn’t be so empty :(
