One of the things that I like about anime that is largely absent in western cartoons (or it was when I was a kid), is that it’s not afraid to kill off a character in order to drive the story. Sometimes these deaths make viewers cry, other times they create mobs of angry fans. Either way, they completely draw in the attention and bring out the emotions of any viewer, ensuring the series will always have people to remember it. Here are just 10 deaths which I thought were excellently done and helped make the series. The videos are the closest I could find of the actual scenes.

Note: I think this is obvious, but spoilers are below. If you haven’t seen but intend to see Mai-Hime, Death Note, Evangelion, Madoka, Nadesico, Gurren Lagann, Clannad After Story, Katanagatari, Code Geass, or Kodomo no Jikan and don’t want to be spoiled, don’t scroll down. Also, before anyone asks “where’s Spike?” I have yet to finish Cowboy Bebop.

So I was watching Clannad After Story Kyou’s Chapter when I noticed two very familiar characters in Tomoya’s classroom.

Anyone who has seen Card Captor Sakura would recognize the characters Sakura Kinomoto and Tomoyo Daidouji right away. For anyone that hasn’t seen it (shame on you), here’s a reference pic:

Just thought I’d point out this little scene for all the CCS fans out there who watch Clannad. I didn’t think the Kyou chapter was anything special, but it’s a must for Kyou fans considering you never see her act embarrassed in the regular series. Hopefully they’ll make a Kotomi chapter too one day ^.^

Wishing a happy birthday to my favourite Clannad character: Kotomi Ichinose. Intelligence is hot ^.^

After nearly a month of waiting, I finally got vol. 108 of Megami Magazine. This volume contains a lot of Clannad After Story and mostly posters of older series. Since I had some free time today I decided to scan the posters in to see how they turned out.

This volume of Megami Magazine features the girls of Toradora on the front cover (yay!) As you can probably tell from my other posts, Toradora is one of my favourite series so I was really happy to see Ami, Minori and Taiga on the cover ^.^

I know this is really late, but I just didn’t have enough time to go through volume 105 of Megami Magazine until now.

This issue features the main character from Sora Wo Kakeru Shoujo on the cover. I watched the first episode of this anime and it just seemed a bit too weird for me.

I finally received my copy of Megami Magazine Volume 104 on Friday. Unfortunately, it didn’t arrive in very good condition. The packaging was ripped and the magazine itself had bends and folds all over. Not to mention that it was frozen stiff from being out in -30C weather. I guess the post office had so many packages to deliver this past month because of christmas that they were less concerned about damaging stuff.

So yesterday I received a huge box from Japan, but I put off opening it until really late because I had a test the next day. Well, I was curious to see what was inside because I didn’t remember ordering anything that big, so I opened it before going to bed and found a whole bunch of packing paper…

Needless to say, I was a bit confused, so I emptied the box and found this at the bottom:

Now I had ordered this Clannad After Story calendar, but I had expected it to come in a regular package used for things like documents, not an actual box. I guess that’s why the shipping cost was so high, I got sent a bunch of air and paper from Japan. (more…)

After two weeks of waiting, my copy of Megami Magazine volume 102 arrived in the mail this morning. When I opened the packaging, I was surprised to find that not only did it not get damaged during shipping, but it also came with a copy of Megami Creators (a separate magazine by the same people, featuring artwork from various artists).

When I opened the bundle, two things also fell out: a JAST USA catalog, and a JAST trading card, lots of goodies this time :) (more…)
