Nendoroid Reflections 1

May 23, 2011 By: Nopy Category: Figures

Some of you may have already seen this picture that I uploaded to MFC recently and named Scarlet Mirror. I came up with the idea while trying to adjust the lighting in my light box and trying out different settings on my camera. After taking a couple of pictures and running them through Photoshop, I came up with Flandre standing on a mirror with her sister Remilia as the reflection.

Below are the two original pics that I used to make the above pic.

A Vexing Problem and A Look Back at Figure Collecting

May 22, 2011 By: Nopy Category: Figures, Personal

Yesterday I was overjoyed when I found out that a company by the name of Kurushima was releasing a Ruri Hoshino figure, and not just any Ruri figure, but one of her before she became a captain. If any of you don’t know who Ruri is, all you have to do is take a look at my banner, gravatar, or any of my profile pics. She has been the unofficial mascot of Nopy’s Blog since its inception and is my favourite character of all time. Unfortunately, the anime she comes from, Martian Successor Nadesico, is from the mid-90′s, so good figures of the younger Ruri are almost non-existent. Most of the ones I’ve seen of her are garage kits from over a decade ago.

With that in mind, it was only natural that I would purchase this figure of Ruri returning from the bakery in a polka dot dress without a second thought, even with the hefty price tag of 14200 yen. However, I am now faced with a dilemma. A day after this figure of Ruri was put up for preorder, another figure showed up on the front pages of my favourite online figure stores.

Haruhi Suzumiya Nendoroid Disappearance Ver. by GSC

April 18, 2011 By: Nopy Category: Figures

Its been a week since my last post and some of you may have noticed my absence online except for twitter, but there are several reasons for that. First is that I’ve been busy checking out the new anime this season, I think I’m just about through all of them. Secondly, classes are all done so all that’s left are exams, which I need to study for. Third, I’ve been rejected from the graduate schools I applied to, so I was feeling a bit down for a few days. On the bright side, I have a full-time job ready for me, so I’ve been looking into how to negotiate my salary and benefits. The average engineer-in-training here starts off making about $66k/year so I’m hoping to get around that much.

Enough about me though, I’m sure you guys are more interested in another nendoroid post.

Haruhi should not be a stranger to anyone, so I don’t think an introduction is necessary here. I skipped out on the original Haruhi nendo, but decided to get the Disappearance version because I love Haruhi with long hair.

Yuki Nagato Nendoroid Disappearance Ver. by GSC

March 27, 2011 By: Nopy Category: Figures

I never liked the first set of Haruhi nendoroids that Good Smile Company produced, overall they looked dull and I didn’t think they captured the essence of the characters. That’s why I was really happy that they decided to release a new set of nendoroids based on the movie The Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya. Yuki was the first nendoroid released, and the promo shots looked good so I preordered her (yes, I’ve had her for a long time now).

In case you haven’t seen it, Yuki is the main female star of the Haruhi movie, which was why her nendoroid was released first. Her standard out-of-the-box look includes her winter coat, a scarf, and a pair of glasses. Her coat sways to one side to make it look like it’s blowing in the wind, which has its upsides and down. It looks better than just a plain coat, but on the other hand, Yuki will always look like she’s out in the cold so people who like to pose their figures in little figure houses will be disappointed.

Touko Amano Nendoroid by GSC

March 06, 2011 By: Nopy Category: Figures

If you’re a regular reader here, you’ll know that I absolutely loved the Bungaku Shoujo OVA and the Bungaku Shoujo movie, so there was no way I could pass up a chance to get this nendoroid of Touko Amano, the title character of the series. Touko is described in the Bungaku Shoujo light novel series as both a beautiful, delicate high school girl, and as a book-eating goblin. In order to capture both aspects of her, GSC has included quite a few accessories, making her box slightly larger than most nendoroids’ boxes.

Taiga Aisaka China Dress Ver. by Wave

February 09, 2011 By: Nopy Category: Figures

First off, to everyone that celebrates it, Happy Belated Chinese New Year! I actually wanted to get this post up before the New Year, but life has been keeping me busy all week. Hope you all enjoyed getting red pockets, eating lots of food, and watching celebrations.

As you can see, I did manage to get myself this exclusive Taiga figure from Wave despite some minor major setbacks, though for a much higher price. She arrived back in December, right around Christmas time so that was a nice treat.

Remilia Scarlet Nendoroid by GSC

January 21, 2011 By: Nopy Category: Figures

It’s been a long time since I’ve written about any figures, and that’s because of three reasons: a) I’m cutting back on figure spending (they’re crazy expensive), b) I have nowhere to put them now, and c) I haven’t been able to get around to taking any pictures. However, I do have a bunch of nendoroids I just opened so you can expect to see them in the coming weeks. The first one is Remilia Scarlet from Touhou Project. All of the Touhou nendoroids are Japan-only releases, so it’s a bit harder to get a hold of them. My previous Touhou nendos were all bought while I was in Japan, Remilia was ordered online.

Collet by Native (Somewhat NSFW)

December 29, 2010 By: Nopy Category: Figures

I had planned to get this review up on Christmas, but I ended up heading out of town on the 24th so there was no time for me to do anything until I got back yesterday. Anyways, considering Collet is a highly sought after figure and she’s been on the market for a while, it was luck that I was able to get a hold of one (albeit pre-owned).

Collet is from the figure maker Native and was sculpted by Chieri. She was based on an illustration by famed ecchi artist Tony Taka and comes in a festive bright red box. The box looks like an elaborate Christmas gift, but lacks any windows unlike other figure boxes; you’ll see why in a few moments.

Hiyori Pixy by GSC (NSFW)

October 31, 2010 By: Nopy Category: Figures

Happy Halloween! I hope everyone is out enjoying their candy and/or parties. Since today is Halloween, I thought I’d review a related figure that I seem to have missed: Hiyori Pixy. I bought Hiyori sometime last year but didn’t review her due to it being a cast-off figure and having a very provocative pose even when cast-on (hence the NSFW tag). In fact, this is the most ecchi figure I own, so if you’re at school/work or any other public place, you probably shouldn’t scroll down any further ;)

Anyways, for those of you wondering what Hiyori Pixy has to do with Halloween, just take a look at her. How could a girl with a giant pumpkin on her head not remind you of Halloween?

Azusa Nakano Nendoroid by GSC

September 04, 2010 By: Nopy Category: Figures

For my first figure post in a long time, I have Azusa Nakano from K-ON. This figure isn’t from the first batch of Azusa nendos since they were sold out by the time I decided to buy it. I had considered buying Azusa for a higher price, but instead I decided to wait and hope that GSC would make some more and they did. When preorders opened for the second batch, I made sure to place my order early. This is my first K-ON figure and will probably be my only one. Like everyone else, I was crazy over K-ON when it came out, but by the time they started making nendoroids, I was already getting tired of the series. The only reason I got Azusa was because of “Azu-nyan” pose.
