Aoi Nishimata Illustrations – Vivid

August 29, 2011 By: Nopy Category: Artbooks

Many of you already know that I’m a big fan of Aoi Nishimata, so it should come as no surprise that when preorders for her Vivid artbook came up, my credit card was already out of my wallet. Aoi Nishimata is a female artist who has worked on characters for visual novels including Shuffle!, Ore-tachi ni Tsubasa wa Nai, Final Approach, Tick! Tack!, and Really? Really!

Released back in December 2010 by Kadokawa Shoten, Vivid is a collection of Aoi Nishimata’s illustrations stretching back to 2001. The book contains 144 pages, mostly of full colour illustrations, a bargain for 3000 yen.

E2 Girls Girls Girls! 5

January 23, 2011 By: Nopy Category: E☆2 (Etsu)

The fifth volume of the Etsu Girls Girls Girls! collection was released way back in June of 2010. I actually picked up this copy while I was in Japan and managed to keep it in perfect condition. You’d think that a book would be perfectly fine inside a box, but for some reason all of my previous volumes have been damaged during shipping. As you can tell from the subtitle on the cover, this volume focuses on pure girls. I’m not quite sure what that means, but I’m guessing something along the lines of sweet and innocent.

I actually really enjoyed flipping through this volume, mainly because there were so many illustrations that I liked, and the sweet and innocent feel really shows. This volume is a lot less ecchi than the previous one, but I would like to warn you guys to consider your surroundings before you scroll any further. While these illustrations are all works of art, I know at least some people may take offense to viewing girls in lingerie.

E2 Girls Girls Girls! 4

The fourth volume of the E☆2 Girls Girls Girls collection is centered around the use of 65 colors in the illustrations. This artbook was released on December 14, 2009, has a total of 96 pages, and includes illustrations from the E☆2 Magazines up to volume 22. Those of you that like anime art may recognize the art style for the cover of the book; it was illustrated by none other than Tinkle, in my opinion, one of the best illustrators out there. As usual, the artbook contains many illustrations from many different artists, below are a few of the ones that I liked.

Lily White by Murakami Suigun

October 01, 2010 By: Nopy Category: Artbooks

One of the artbooks that I picked up during my trip to Japan was “Lily White” by Murakami Suigun (村上水軍). Honestly, I’d never heard of Lily White or Murakami Suigun before picking up this book. I was actually getting a copy of E☆2 Girls Girls Girls! volume 5 (which I will review eventually), when I noticed this book beside it. I know people say you shouldn’t judge a book by its cover, but in Japan all artbooks are wrapped in plastic so that’s all you have to go by, and I just loved the cover of this book. Figuring that there would be more illustrations like the one on the cover, I decided to buy it for 2600 yen. Apparently, Murakami Suigun is a popular artist, having been illustrating for several years. He also publishes a series called Murakami Suigun’s Fetishistic Illustrations, otherwise shorted to F-ism. As of this writing, there are 14 volumes out, and they seem to mostly depict maids, but also cover other themes like miko and schoolgirls (all in bondage positions, hence the title).

Back to Lily White, the book is split into three sections: Pasocom Paradise Works, Original Design Works, and Games & Copyright Works. The titles of the sections are pretty self-explanatory, pasocom is short for personal computer and features illustrations done on the computer, including the rough sketches and line art. The games and copyright section contains illustrations for titles that Murakami Suigun has worked on such as Silvery White, and eroge. There are over 130 pages of illustrations and they’re all of female characters. Here are some pages that I picked out from the book:

E2 Girls Girls Girls! 1

April 30, 2010 By: Nopy Category: E☆2 (Etsu)

Today I thought I’d share some of my favourite illustrations from the first volume of the  E☆2 (Etsu) Girls Girls Girls! collection. I’ve actually had this artbook for nearly a year now, but never got around to posting about it until now. Like volumes 2 and 3, there are also special categories in volume 1, but these ones are more generic. The first section starts out with gravure illustrations, and after that are a series of smaller categories such as maids, twins, and glasses. These pages were really hard to scan without actually tearing the book apart, which is why you’ll notice one side is a little blurry in all of the pictures. Oh, and in case you were wondering, the cover illustration was done by none other than Tony Taka, who I’m sure many people have already heard of.

E2 Girls Girls Girls! 3

June 21, 2009 By: Nopy Category: E☆2 (Etsu)

Along with E2’s (Etsu’s) Girls Girls Girls! volume 2 illustration collection, I also bought the volume 3 illustration collection. This volume focuses on the cover girls of all the E2 Magazines from volumes 1-16, the poster girls from volumes 1-15, and the pick-up girls from volumes 1-7.

E2 Girls Girls Girls! 2

June 19, 2009 By: Nopy Category: E☆2 (Etsu)

I’ve heard that E2 Magazine (also called Etsu) had really nice artwork so when I cam across volume 2 of the Girls Girls Girls! artbook I decided to get it, and I wasn’t disappointed. This volume contains artwork of girls streatching across two pages for each month in the first section, and a girl representing a region of Japan in the second section. In total there are over 70 colour pages of artwork from various artists. To give you an idea of what the artwork is like, I scanned some of the pages of the section with girls representing different areas of Japan. (sorry for the poor quality, but holding a perfect-bound book open over a scanner is harder than it sounds)
