Nopybot Productions: Project Start!

November 08, 2015 By: Nopy Category: Announcements

Some of you may be wondering where I disappeared off to after saying that I would come back to blogging. Well, the truth is that I got sidetracked with another project: Nopybot Productions.

Very few people know this, but 11 years ago I tried my hand at making AMVs. At the time I had no special software and my computer hard drive barely had enough space for several anime series. The result was that I could only use whatever anime I was watching at the time and had to split and merge clips with Avisplit and hope it matched the music. You can see the fruits of my labour below. The first clip is the very first AMV I made back in 2004 and the second clip was made a while later.

At the time I thought this was way too much work for what it was worth. It was also before the days of Youtube so the only way I could share my work was through animemusicvideos.org and hoping people would randomly view and rank my videos. I decided back then not to touch AMVs again until it became much easier to make something good.

Fast-forward more than a decade and nowadays I have software that can make professional movies, and more anime and hard drive space than I know what to do with. I have been spending the past few month learning about all the software available and putting together my 3rd AMV. It’s hard to say when my 3rd AMV will be out, but when I’m done I’ll post it here and officially launch Nopybot Productions.

7 Year Anniversary

birthday

This is a day late, but Nopy’s Blog is now 7 years old!

Although posts have been rather sporadic for a number of reasons, I’m still happy that I’ve been able to keep it up for so long. Considering most anime blogs don’t make it to 2 years, I guess that makes Nopy’s Blog an old geezer now?

The Return of Nopy

After a long 2-year journey, I’m happy to announce that I have completed my MBA!

As you have probably noticed, Nopy’s Blog hasn’t been very active these last two years, mainly because the MBA program took up so much of my time. With school done and me moving back home this week, I’ll have plenty of time to catch up with the aniblogosphere and get Nopy’s Blog back up and running. Expect to see a makeover to the blog layout and some long overdue anime and figure reviews.

P.S. If anyone knows of a company in the anime industry that’s looking for a newly graduated MBA to help with business strategy or operations, please send them my way. I’m currently unemployed.

6 Year Anniversary

August 07, 2014 By: Nopy Category: Announcements

Happy Birthday, Nopy’s Blog!

Its been exactly six years since the day I started Nopy’s Blog and that means its time to look back on another year on the interwebs. Unlike previous years, there has been little activity on here. In fact, if you scroll down the front page, you’ll see that my 5 year anniversary post is still there, which says a lot.

Unfortunately, real life has me in a stranglehold. I thought the summer break from school would give me some free time, but schoolwork still haunts me and I don’t think I’ve left work before or at quitting time since I started. Oh how I miss the days when I just had to worry about putting in 40 hours a week and which figure to order next.

In terms of blog traffic, Nopy’s Blog is far from its height when it received 1500 views per day. Last year it was averaging 500, and now it’s down to around 350. I feel like one of those old bloggers that keeps talking about making more updates, but then eventually disappears from the internet and is completely forgotten. Well, hopefully that doesn’t happen, especially considering I scheduled my classes this upcoming semester so that I have 4-day and 3-day weekends.

star_locket

In other news, I got myself a little anniversary present, which you can see above. It’s a Sailor Moon Star Locket, which was sold by Bandai in the mid-90’s. What’s special about this locket is that it plays music when you open it, just like the one Sailor Moon has. While the original price for one of these was around $10, they now go for $400-$600 depending on the condition.  While not as expensive as my Sailor Moon Gold Card, it’s still not something you just buy on a whim.

As far as I know, there are the following releases: Japan (1992), Korea (1995), and Europe (1992/1995). The Japanese ones say “Bandai 1992 Made in Japan” on the back, the Korean ones say “Bandai Asia 1995″, and the European ones say “Bandai 199x Made in China”. The one I have is the 1995 Korean release. There’s also a special pink version of the locket, which is worth somewhere between $3,000 and $4,000.

Anyways, people have been telling me that the second year of the MBA program is easier than the first so fingers crossed that this post won’t still be on the front page next year and I’ll have time to review all the backlogged goodies I have.

Closing Shop

Well, the past 6 years have been fun, but I think it’s finally time to close up shop and bring Nopy’s Blog to an end. Doing an MBA has been more work than I anticipated and after 3 months without an update, I think it’s clear that I simply don’t have the time to update the site anymore. Let me just say that it has been fun being part of the aniblogosphere. I learned how to embrace my passion for anime and figures, met a lot of other bloggers who shared the same feelings, and discovered a whole new side of anime fandom. I’d like to thank everyone who followed me on this journey; you know who you are. It wouldn’t have been the same without you.

The site will be up for another month as my deposit for hosting fees dries up. In the meantime, if there are any posts that you enjoyed on my site, I encourage you to save them now. I recommend starting with this particular category.

HAPPY APRIL FOOLS!

P.S. Look forward to this summer!

5 Year Anniversary

Five years… that’s a long time for an anime blog to be on the internet; that’s how long Nopy’s Blog has been around now. I don’t have much to say for this year’s anniversary considering I’ve been out of the loop for a while. I’m finally starting to get back into the groove of going to school every day again and settling into my new home in Toronto. If anyone in Toronto wants to meet up to talk about anime or figures, let me know :)

Right now I have two Megami Magazines sitting in my drawer waiting to be reviewed along with a figure photo shoot I did before moving so you guys can expect those to be posted in a few weeks. If I can still remember what happened in all the anime from last season then I’ll be posting reviews for those as well. My next post will probably be the seasonal round-up though as we’re already halfway into the summer season.

As for how the blog is doing, I’m happy to say that the drop in traffic due to my absence has levelled off at 500+ views/day. Thank you all for continuing to support Nopy’s Blog despite me being busy with applications, moving, a recent computer failure, and getting adjusted to school again. Once I get back into the groove, you can expect to see more of me.

Kanon Wakeshima Guest at Animethon 20

June 14, 2013 By: Nopy Category: Announcements

kanon

As tomorrow is my last day on the board of directors for ASAPA, the organization that runs Animethon, I figure I’d do one last thing to help out: spreading the word about Animethon 20’s latest guest, Kanon Wakeshima.

The announcement was made earlier today through the Animethon 20 website and social media. Kanon is probably best known among anime fans for her song “still doll” which was used as the ending theme for Vampire Knight. Even though I have never seen Vampire Knight, I have heard her music numerous times and I think she’s a wonderful artist. Any hardcore Kanon fans among you may want to book your tickets to Animethon 20 now if you want to get an autograph or see her perform live. Other guests include Capella, DJ Shimamura, Christopher Sabat, Patrick Seitz, Twinfools and Nova, Lucas Gilbertson, Carol-Anne Day, and The 404’s. Animethon 20 will take place August 9-11, 2013 at the Grant MacEwan downtown campus in Edmonton, AB, Canada.

Unfortunately, I will not be able to see Kanon myself as I am moving to Toronto a few weeks before the convention. I hope some of you do go though. Not only will you get to see Kanon, but you will also be attending the oldest *cough* and best *cough* anime convention in Canada and visiting Nopy’s hometown :)

Blogging Successor Nopy: The Blank of 4 Years

August 07, 2012 By: Nopy Category: Announcements

Well here we are, exactly 4 years after I decided to start blogging and opened an account on WordPress. For something that was supposed to be a way for me to pass time until the end of Summer, this blog has vastly out-lived its planned life expectancy.

2011 Year-End Report

December 31, 2011 By: Nopy Category: Announcements

Now that 2011 is coming to an end, I thought it would be fitting to write a year-end or annual report. Many companies submit reports summarizing their activities throughout the year, so I figured why couldn’t a blog do the same? For those interested, below is a list of the major points of interest concerning my blog for the past year.

3 Year Anniversary

August 07, 2011 By: Nopy Category: Announcements

Another milestone has been reached today: Nopy’s Blog is now 3 years old. It’s hard to imagine that 3 years have already passed since the day I decided to start a blog on a whim. Not much has changed since my 2nd anniversary post; I’m still far from creating a mascot (though Ruri seems to work well), and it looks like I unintentionally took a week off from the Internet before making this post as well. If you’re wondering where I’ve been, I’ve basically been going to festivals and events during all of my free time. There’s a reason why Edmonton is the self-proclaimed “festival city”.

Since there isn’t much else to say in an anniversary post, here are a few updates:

Update 1

Regular readers may have noticed a new Navigation page and Google +1 buttons at the bottom of posts. These are a part of what I call Operation Phoenix. After suffering from Google’s Panda Slap earlier this year, web traffic was decimated and went into a slow and steady decline for a few months. When weekly traffic hit a yearly low, I decided it was enough and took measures to revive the blog. My efforts seem to be working as I am now achieving some level of normalcy.

Update 2

Animethon is once again taking place. I have spent the weekend so far at the convention and I will probably be there the rest of today as well (meaning I won’t be able to check the blogs I follow until afterwards). If anyone remembers seeing a guy wearing a Kyubey t-shirt and carrying a Canon camera, then congratulations, you’re one of the few people to have spotted a Nopy in the wild.

Update 3

There are still some figures for sale (part 1 and part 2). I am in negotiations for some of them, but if they aren’t marked as sold, then there’s a chance you can get one you’re interested in.
