After a long 2-year journey, I’m happy to announce that I have completed my MBA!
As you have probably noticed, Nopy’s Blog hasn’t been very active these last two years, mainly because the MBA program took up so much of my time. With school done and me moving back home this week, I’ll have plenty of time to catch up with the aniblogosphere and get Nopy’s Blog back up and running. Expect to see a makeover to the blog layout and some long overdue anime and figure reviews.
P.S. If anyone knows of a company in the anime industry that’s looking for a newly graduated MBA to help with business strategy or operations, please send them my way. I’m currently unemployed.
Happy Birthday, Nopy’s Blog!
Its been exactly six years since the day I started Nopy’s Blog and that means its time to look back on another year on the interwebs. Unlike previous years, there has been little activity on here. In fact, if you scroll down the front page, you’ll see that my 5 year anniversary post is still there, which says a lot.
Unfortunately, real life has me in a stranglehold. I thought the summer break from school would give me some free time, but schoolwork still haunts me and I don’t think I’ve left work before or at quitting time since I started. Oh how I miss the days when I just had to worry about putting in 40 hours a week and which figure to order next.
In terms of blog traffic, Nopy’s Blog is far from its height when it received 1500 views per day. Last year it was averaging 500, and now it’s down to around 350. I feel like one of those old bloggers that keeps talking about making more updates, but then eventually disappears from the internet and is completely forgotten. Well, hopefully that doesn’t happen, especially considering I scheduled my classes this upcoming semester so that I have 4-day and 3-day weekends.
In other news, I got myself a little anniversary present, which you can see above. It’s a Sailor Moon Star Locket, which was sold by Bandai in the mid-90’s. What’s special about this locket is that it plays music when you open it, just like the one Sailor Moon has. While the original price for one of these was around $10, they now go for $400-$600 depending on the condition. While not as expensive as my Sailor Moon Gold Card, it’s still not something you just buy on a whim.
As far as I know, there are the following releases: Japan (1992), Korea (1995), and Europe (1992/1995). The Japanese ones say “Bandai 1992 Made in Japan” on the back, the Korean ones say “Bandai Asia 1995″, and the European ones say “Bandai 199x Made in China”. The one I have is the 1995 Korean release. There’s also a special pink version of the locket, which is worth somewhere between $3,000 and $4,000.
Anyways, people have been telling me that the second year of the MBA program is easier than the first so fingers crossed that this post won’t still be on the front page next year and I’ll have time to review all the backlogged goodies I have.
Well, the past 6 years have been fun, but I think it’s finally time to close up shop and bring Nopy’s Blog to an end. Doing an MBA has been more work than I anticipated and after 3 months without an update, I think it’s clear that I simply don’t have the time to update the site anymore. Let me just say that it has been fun being part of the aniblogosphere. I learned how to embrace my passion for anime and figures, met a lot of other bloggers who shared the same feelings, and discovered a whole new side of anime fandom. I’d like to thank everyone who followed me on this journey; you know who you are. It wouldn’t have been the same without you.
The site will be up for another month as my deposit for hosting fees dries up. In the meantime, if there are any posts that you enjoyed on my site, I encourage you to save them now. I recommend starting with this particular category.
HAPPY APRIL FOOLS!
P.S. Look forward to this summer!
Five years… that’s a long time for an anime blog to be on the internet; that’s how long Nopy’s Blog has been around now. I don’t have much to say for this year’s anniversary considering I’ve been out of the loop for a while. I’m finally starting to get back into the groove of going to school every day again and settling into my new home in Toronto. If anyone in Toronto wants to meet up to talk about anime or figures, let me know :)
Right now I have two Megami Magazines sitting in my drawer waiting to be reviewed along with a figure photo shoot I did before moving so you guys can expect those to be posted in a few weeks. If I can still remember what happened in all the anime from last season then I’ll be posting reviews for those as well. My next post will probably be the seasonal round-up though as we’re already halfway into the summer season.
As for how the blog is doing, I’m happy to say that the drop in traffic due to my absence has levelled off at 500+ views/day. Thank you all for continuing to support Nopy’s Blog despite me being busy with applications, moving, a recent computer failure, and getting adjusted to school again. Once I get back into the groove, you can expect to see more of me.
As tomorrow is my last day on the board of directors for ASAPA, the organization that runs Animethon, I figure I’d do one last thing to help out: spreading the word about Animethon 20’s latest guest, Kanon Wakeshima.
The announcement was made earlier today through the Animethon 20 website and social media. Kanon is probably best known among anime fans for her song “still doll” which was used as the ending theme for Vampire Knight. Even though I have never seen Vampire Knight, I have heard her music numerous times and I think she’s a wonderful artist. Any hardcore Kanon fans among you may want to book your tickets to Animethon 20 now if you want to get an autograph or see her perform live. Other guests include Capella, DJ Shimamura, Christopher Sabat, Patrick Seitz, Twinfools and Nova, Lucas Gilbertson, Carol-Anne Day, and The 404’s. Animethon 20 will take place August 9-11, 2013 at the Grant MacEwan downtown campus in Edmonton, AB, Canada.
Unfortunately, I will not be able to see Kanon myself as I am moving to Toronto a few weeks before the convention. I hope some of you do go though. Not only will you get to see Kanon, but you will also be attending the oldest *cough* and best *cough* anime convention in Canada and visiting Nopy’s hometown :)
It’s time to get your hard-on because Nopy’s Blog has grown up! After nearly 5 years blogging about anime, figures, magazines, and everything related, I’ve come to a realization: Nopy’s Blog was just like every other anime-themed blog out there. With web traffic steady declining, I had to do something in order to keep up the site’s popularity, but what? After looking at old traffic data to see what people were interested in, the answer finally hit me: hentai. There are more anime blogs out there than anyone can count, but how many hentai blogs do you know of? Considering the number of people that stumbled onto Nopy’s Blog searching for hentai, there’s definitely a demand for it. So without further ado, I present to you Nopy’s Hentai Blog.
What will I be doing on Nopy’s Hentai Blog, you ask? For the most part, everything will be the same as it was on Nopy’s Blog: I will still be writing reviews, posting pictures, and analyzing the finer details of things. The difference is that instead of focusing on anime, figures, and magazines, I’ll be focusing on hentai, onaholes, and Japanese adult videos (JAVs). To give you an idea of what’s to come, below is a preview of some posts that will be going up in the coming weeks.
After a lengthy time away from the blogging world, I am happy to announce that I will be returning to regular blogging this week. As I had mentioned in previous posts, I’ve been working on applications to several schools these past few months. In the end, considering the costs of going to a high-ranked American school, it just wouldn’t be worthwhile for me so I have decided to accept an offer from the University of Toronto. I visited Toronto and saw the campus last month; there’s definitely a cultural difference between the prairies and Toronto so that’ll take a little getting used to. Going back to school after working for a few years may also take some adjustment. On the other hand, I don’t think it’ll take me long to get used to the warmer climate over there. No blizzards or snow on the ground by mid-November? That sounds awesome.
Anyways, since I have a lot to catch up on, I actually don’t know where to start. If you’d like to see a certain type of post first (ie: anime, magazine, figure, etc.), just let me know.
It has been nearly two months since I put my blog on hold so I guess it’s time for an update.
In my absence, traffic to Nopy’s Blog has dropped significantly. This past week has averaged 600 visitors per day, about half of what it was before. It will likely drop more before I can return to blogging regularly again, but I’m just glad that people like you are still visiting and leaving comments :)
My time away has reminded me of why I blog; there aren’t many people I can talk about anime with in real life, either I don’t see them enough or we watch different shows. I will likely be able to get back to blogging in the new year. In the meantime, you can check out all of the awesome blogs listed under the links section.
As some of you may remember, I am getting ready to send in some applications for school. Unfortunately, that means that I will need to spend a lot of time writing and perfecting my application essays, and contacting references. As such, I will need to take a break from the internet and blogging for a while. I don’t know how long I’ll be gone, it could be 3 weeks, it could be 3 months; it all depends on how much time I end up spending on my applications and how many schools I apply to. A few posts may pop up now and then on slow weekends, but don’t expect replies to comments any time soon.
I will still be around on Twitter and you can reach me through email if you really want to talk to me. For now, Nopy’s Blog is going into hibernation. Hopefully I will have some good news when I return.
