Despite how much I like anime, I’ve never been a big fan of incredible events with no viable scientific explanation. This includes things like flying through the air with no apparent form of propulsion, creating vast quantities of energy from nothing, and penetrating the armour of a vehicle using a weaker material by using shear willpower. This is one of the reasons why Martian Successor Nadesico was and still is one of my favourite anime: it used the latest theories of quantum mechanics and newest technological advancements of the 90s to explain how things like instant transport and the terraforming of Mars was possible. When there was no way to explain something (like the generation of particles to perform a gravity blast), the topic was simply avoided rather than trying to make up something fake and untrue.

After over a year of waiting, I finally have the Alter versions of  Hayate, Fate, and now Nanoha from Mahou Shoujo Lyrical Nanoha StrikerS. I know Alter has other StrikerS figures, but these three were the only ones I really cared about. They were also crazy expensive when you factor in shipping so I wouldn’t be able to afford the others anyway. Like Hayate and Fate, Nanoha also comes in a huge box. I managed to fit the first two boxes under my desk, but I have no clue where I’m going to put this third one.

The January 2010 issue of Dengeki G’s magazine features Manaka from Love Plus on the cover. I’m sure most of you have probably heard of this wildly popular dating sim on the NDS which allows you to interact and deepen your bond between one of three girls in the game. Apparently it’s so good that a guy in Japan even went ahead and married one of the girls in the game (but not officially/legally). Personally, I’d prefer a real wife, but to each his own.

I’ve had this copy of Megami Magazine Creators Vol. 17 for a while, but I guess I forgot about looking through it until now. On the cover of this volume is Amane from the XBOX 360 dating sim Dream C Club. The game is only available in Japanese, and involves visiting a hostess club every night to try to win over one of the girls. It sounds a bit harder than other dating sim games though because apparently you can accidentally do something that makes a girl think of you as a friend and never as a lover. I’ve never played the game but I can imagine that someone who’s been playing the game for several days would be really mad if they got the “best friend” ending.

Yay, my first figure post in over 3 weeks. Since my internship is over and I’m back in school, I no longer have a source of income. I’m also trying not to spend the money I already have because I’ll need it for my trip to Japan this summer. With that said, I probably won’t be getting many more figures between now and June except for the ones I’ve already preordered and perhaps a few irresistable ones like Tokido Saya. On the bright side though, I have 3 more figure reviews coming up after this one.

It looks like I’m getting close to catching up with my Megami posts. On the cover of volume 116 are the girls from Seitokai no Ichizon doing some cosplay. Personally, I’m pretty happy that they finally decided to put Seitokai no Ichizon on the cover of a Megami Magazine since it was my favourite show last season. It seems most of the covers lately have been focusing on new/upcoming anime movies, so it’s nice to see a tv series back on every once in a while. Anyways, enough with the cover, if you wanted to see the pin-up posters (and I’m sure you do), they’re all below:

Over the past few years, I’ve read a lot of blogs about anime figures and figure collecting. One thing that I’ve noticed over this period is that a lot of the people who collect figures seem to enjoy collecting other stuff too (myself included). So today I thought I’d share with everyone all the stuff that I collect and maybe find some more people that collect the same things. First I’ll start with the obvious stuff:

Figures

Unless this is your first time here, you’ll know that I’ve been collecting figures for a while. I bought my first figure back in August of 2007 – a 1/8 scale PVC figure of Haruhi by Max Factory. I later found it it was a bootleg, but managed to get a hold of an authentic one a couple months later. The detail that was put into the sculpt and painting really impressed me and that was what got me started on buying more figures. I got my first nendoroid soon after that, Light Yagami from Death Note, and once again I was really impressed with the detail. Currently, over a third of my figures are nendoroids. Pictures of my figure collection are below. Some of my newer figures aren’t displayed because I haven’t opened them yet.

Sorry, everyone, for the lack of posts recently. Life has been really busy so I haven’t been able to write much or reply to comments for the past two weeks. Now that I have a break though, I can finally get back to making some regular posts. I still have several magazines that I haven’t gone through, but I’ll get to them eventually. Today I’m going to take a look at Megami Magazine Vol. 115. Although Christmas is long over, there’s still plenty of snow on the ground, so this issue of Megami Magazine doesn’t feel out of season yet.

Episode 5 of Bakatest will probably be a favourite of all the Hideyoshi fans out there. The episode starts off with Yoshii finding a limited edition cell phone strap. He soon finds out that it belongs to Hazuki and tries to save it from being crushed in the middle of the road, but to no avail. Luckily for him, the school decides to hold a contest and one of the prizes is a set of limited edition straps that Hazuki collects. The twist though,is that the coordinates of the prizes are only revealed by answering the questions on a test correctly.
