Inuyasha The Final Act ep. 15 – Inuyasha vs. Sesshoumaru
Before I get on with what I wanted to talk about, just a warning to anyone who’s watching/planning to watch the last season of Inuyasha but still haven’t seen it, there are spoilers in my post. Unless you don’t care about knowing what happens, or have already seen up to ep 15, then you might want to watch it first.
With that said, I can now begin my Inuyasha rant >:)
Lets recap what’s happened so far. Seeing as this is the last season of Inuyasha, all of the excess characters need to be disposed of. In the first several episodes of the season, we see all of Naraku’s minions get done in with the exception of Byakuya. Kikyo also died for the third time, you can’t end a series without resolving a love triangle after all. I’m sure Kagome was secretly leaping for joy when Kikyo finally kicked the bucket. All the main characters are also powering/leveling up. Inuyasha has the dragon-scaled Tetsaiga, Kagome has a new bow with special powers, Koga has the Goraishi, Shippo took some fox demon exam and is now stronger than your average fox demon kid, Miroku doesn’t feel pain from poisons any more, Sango’s Hiraikotsu can slice through Naraku now, and Sesshoumaru has mastered Meido Zangetsuha for the Tenseiga. Naraku has also absorbed some more demons and is only 1 shard away from completing the Shikon jewel, it’s like an arms race to see which side can get the most destructive power.
That brings us to episode 15. With the love triangle taken care of, extra enemies removed, and characters powered up, one of the last issues to solve is the sibling rivalry between Inuyasha and Sesshoumaru. Since those two have been going at it since the beginning of the series, I was expecting an epic battle, but I was sorely disappointed. Before the battle, Sesshoumaru coats Tenseiga with powder ground from a fragment of Kanna’s mirror, allowing Tenseiga to use Tetsaiga’s moves. Inuyasha and Sesshoumaru then have a few bouts, then Sesshoumaru uses Meido Zangetsuha and hits Inuyasha directly, pulling him into the underworld.
I was pretty upset when this happened. Really, Sesshoumaru wins only after a few minutes of fighting? It didn’t even look like Sesshoumaru was even trying.
With Sesshoumaru emerging as the winner, he tosses Tenseiga into the Meido, believing that he no longer needs it. The whole time, Naraku has been watching the battle, and seeing that Inuyasha has been defeated, Naraku decides to kill him himself by controlling the Tenseiga. This is all well and good, but then something I really didn’t expect happened.
Sesshoumaru jumps into the Meido to save Inuyasha. Seriously, what is up with that. He had just ensured Inuyasha’s death and now he’s risking his own life to save him a minute later? I just don’t get it.
Anyways, Sesshoumaru breaks Tenseiga against the Tetsaiga, thereby transferring Tenseiga’s powers to Tetsaiga.
Of course, transferring Tenseiga’s powers to the Tetsaiga doesn’t change the fact that both Inuyasha and Sesshoumaru are being pulled into the underworld. What I didn’t like though is that Sesshoumaru basically says he’ll leave everything to Inuyasha. For a guy that hates his brother’s guts, it seems like a really weird thing to do. Needless to say, Inuyasha saves the day yet again, this time with his new Black Tetsaiga. What I don’t get is why Sesshoumaru had to give up Tenseiga’s powers. Yes, this makes Inuyasha even stronger so he can defeat Naraku, but it doesn’t benefit Sesshoumaru in any way.
What’s worse is that after all that, Sesshoumaru just walks away; he doesn’t even show any interest in the new suped-up Tetsaiga. For two brothers that have been feuding for over a hundred episodes, this was a horrible way to end it. After a few clashes, Sesshoumaru just doesn’t care about anything anymore and they both make up? I was expecting a huge battle with things exploding everywhere, or having both sides fight to the bitter end, but no, everyone has to be happy so they just put aside the issue of who gets the sword and leave it at that. There wasn’t even that many injuries from the fight, with the only major one being when Inuyasha was attacked from behind by the Naraku-controlled Tenseiga.
This is one of the worst endings to a sibling feud that I have seen, Sesshoumaru never even gets Inuyasha back for cutting off his arm. If the ending of the series is anything like this, then I’d be very disappointed.
